Shop Update!www.nymla.se/shop
The moose, guided by the sun, travelling north to find new spring pastures. Petroglyph moose mugs, a moose sculpture and pendants are now in my shop!
In spring the moose and their young travel north in search of new grazing pastures, taking the same paths as their anscestors thousands of years ago, somehow they know the way – just about. They swim across the river Ångermanälven – and maybe there, some people saw them, six thousand years ago.
Maybe the people would carve depictions of these huge wondrous animals passing by in the hundreds, as a tribute, into the rocks close to the shore of the river?
Maybe it was a spring day, when someone sat down to chip an image into the rocks, and that's why all the carvings show moose without their antlers?
Since the female are without antlers, and the male drop theirs in winter, and in spring they are barely noticable when they start to grow out again.
The “sun cross”, to me, symbolises spring, the arrival of the sun and life beginning again. So the moose here on these mugs, they're greeted by the sun on their springtime migration.
