sooo ... well, I guess the title says it. A lot of people ask for comments, but when people give out 1-word-comments, they complain about them! So you're not happy to hear somebody like it? Yes, in-depth feedback helps to improve. But you just can't expect EVERY comment to be a book-let series on why they like it, how you could improve, ect ... My point is, I don't mind it when people tell me it's nice, or they like it. Sometimes, 1 word can say a lot more then the book-like comment you might prefer

Of course, only 1 word comments can get on your nerves - I try to balance my comments - If I can help, I'll try to say something to help improve. But not everybody on dA has the skills and knowledge to write a big and large comment like that. Appreciate the fact some people enjoy your art, and even think it's worth telling you!

And please don't go around only using 1 word comments on my work from now on I appreciate all comments (except for spam), that includes the ones where you give me feedback on how to improve/the longer ones

An argument I often hear, is that they are annoying - you don't know what to say back. How about just a 1 word comment back? "Thanks" for example?

---This doesn't include spam comments---
Feel free to use this, but not to defend your spam comments ... just saying "nice" followed by a link to your work, is just plain annoying. My art is not your advertising board. And I'm pretty sure a lot other artists feel the same way

I love comments of all kinds, though sometimes I am like, "Write more, " and other times I am just like..."I don't want to read that right now...."

I like long comments but it is sometimes hard to reply to them But I also donΒ΄t mind short comments.
But well, if I have something to say I write a longer comment, if I want only state that it is cute, nice, beautiful I write a one word comment and if I fave it and donΒ΄t have nothing more to say than one word I do not comment

Thank you for saying it. I am certainly not the type to just spew good criticism out of nowhere, so alot of the time all I can manage is "Nicely done" or "how sweet! " because that's all I can think to say, though at least I try to dig into my deeper vocabulary sometimes. I think it's just plain too picky for someone to say "no one word comments at all". It's good to have a mix of book comments and one-word comments. Just my opinion, not everyone is good at critiquing.

you can have a nice one word comment, but also pretty stupid ones.
I prefer a' nice' next to a 'wauw' comment ...

but what I hate the most are just a emoticon as comment ...
that's it just being lazy .. at least for me.

Everybody's preference
I don't mind a emoticon comment, as long as they don't do it to often - A comment with the same emoticon over and over ..

I like comments but I can honestly say, that I'd prefer a one word comment than a book.

I agree. Sometimes I refrain from saying more in my comments because someone else has already said something similar enough that I don't want to be unnecessarily redundant. And sometimes just saying "wow' or "amazing" is all I need to show how I feel about the piece!

It totally doesn't have to be more sometimes! I find it rather amusing to out looking for a fitting smiley, to reply to the "smiley comment" somebody left me

And if your art leaves somebody speechless, it's that 1 of the greatest compliments and feedback you can get?
