Description The characters in R&R are all humans.

- They don't have tails
- They don't have fur
- They act like normal people

Humans that were born mutated with animal-like characteristics from the radiation.
The most common street animals such as dogs, rats, and cats somehow intertwined into the human genetic code from radioactive mutations after the bombs fell; They're considered evolved to survive the new world, and they have better characteristics to suit the post apocalyptic landscape.

Most things born are horribly disfigured or miscarriages, only about 4/10 babies born are "normal", to an extent.
Also, keep in mind that humans in the 23rd century vary greatly from person to person. Some are more animal-like than others, and some look totally like people now save for something slightly off or distorted. But they're all fleshy, furless, homo sapiens.
Humanity as a whole was mostly wiped out and the remaining few humans and street animals evolved into a new race of mutants.

" The War was over... The only survivors were street animals: dogs, cats and rats. From them, a new race of mutants evolved. That was a long time ago. "

However, this was in the American version (which, imo, isn't as canon as the Canadian)
But, they evolved separately from animals.
