Description
In general, Aderyn preferred to walk back home whenever possible. Being in the car felt restrictive, as if you were trapped in a metal box with wheels. Too many bumps would lead to one upset gut, which was why the potbellied witch liked walking over being driven back home. This was not one of those nights, Golch recieved a text from her mother asking her to pick her up and with a sigh she jumped into the family car and drove to where she mentioned she was at.
In the dark of night, on the silent streets of Greenwitch Vale, Golch spotted her mother. Stopping the car, she waited as the redhead squeezed through the back seat and rested her large stomach over the floor. It was a good thing that they all put their money into having this car modified to accomodate Aderyn, for her gut tended to push into seats and smother people with green flesh trapped beneath the dark fabric of her yoga pants. The redhead sighed as the car started once more and they were on their way back home.
“Hey, thanks for picking me up. Didn’t want to go walking around the city at this time of night.” Aderyn smiled as she rested her arms on the top of the backseat. Even though the car was modified, Golch could still feel it softly pressing against her seat. Golch remained focused, her eyes observing the road ahead.
“It’s no problem mum, but you really got to have some confidence.” The blue-haired witch replied. Aderyn leaned slightly forwards, her eyes widening slightly.
“I would if people would stop going on about ghouls in the sewers, snatching people up in the middle of the night! It makes a witch like me nervous, what if I get snatched?” Her mother's voice was filled with nervousness, another rumor had got to her again. As far as Golch understood there were no ghouls in the sewers, if there were any the entire city would be on lockdown.
“Then the only problem you’d have is being stuck in a manhole.” Golch smirked, to which her mother pouted at that retort.
“Ha ha, very funny.” Aderyn folded her arms as she slumped against the back seat.
“Besides mum, you’re a witch. I mean you could just zap a spell out and turn them into a chair or something...” Golch pondered as she stopped at a red light, to which the redhead shrugged.
“My zapping isn’t what it used to be, at best I’d turn one half of them into a chair and there’ll be blood and intestines everywhere.” Aderyn wiggled her fingers as tiny sparks appeared inbetween them before fizzling out. The red light became a green light, and they further navigated the labyrinth that was Greenwitch Vale's metropolitan area.
A rustling of paper could be heard from behind, and in that instant Golch knew what else her mother was up to before she arrived.
“You went to Scream Burger again didn’t you?” She asked, the redhead's eyes widened as she sipped on her boo-berry milkshake. She'd been caught so easily.
“What? Mummy has to eat too, it’s only just a shake and a burger!” She explained, Golch’s eyes winced as she heard the soft gurgle from her mother’s large middle. It was as if her mother had been put on top of a ferocious beast that was sleeping, but could wake up at the slightest disturbance.
“Mum, you know how addictive that chain can make their food. Remember the last time you got too addicted? It’s why we changed our car in the first place.” Aderyn paused, she remembered that last time. It was not a good one for her gut.
“I know, I know. That was a younger, naive me. But now mummy knows she has to moderate, so don’t worry about it.” Aderyn said as she took a large bite from her burger, before finishing it off with another. The taste was sweet yet savoury, the beefy flavour rolling down her throat like a waterfall. She smiled as she patted her satisfied stomach. She looked towards her daughter, then back down towards her cup. There was still a bit of shake left, with curious intent she lifted the cup towards her.
“Hey Golch, you want the rest of this? You seem like you need some boo-berry in your life.” She offered, all became quiet save for the rumbling of the car’s engine. Golch gave short glances at it, before she rolled her eyes and let out a sigh.
“Fine, only this once.” Golch stretched out a hand at the back and grabbed the cup, before taking a sip out of the wretched drink.
There was a brief silence as Golch darted her eyes back at her curious mother, not wanting to admit that the creamy flavour of boo-berry was incredibly delicious.
“Shut up, it’s alright.” She muttered as she looked back onto the road, for they would soon be home.
