Time passed, and as the Dormire bushes continued to grow and spread from Carita to the other realms, more and more of Empyrean's inhabitants fell into slumber.

Few remained awake. Only those who had attempted to take action -having collected samples of the plants as the Seventh Fairy had requested- and animals who lived among the bushes were spared, for it was later found that the juices which flowed through the leaves negated the spores when applied to the skin. As the gatherers of these samples had been unaware of this fact, and so had only had that slight amount of substance which seeped from the freshly plucked leaves touch them, they were to be found as much more sleepy than they normally would be.

Yet as for the rest, they had fallen wherever they had been, and nothing in the world would wake them.

Now, it was far too much work for such few in number to retrieve all of the sleeping from the cold, and so it came to pass that the Sidhe (for they were the majority of they who remained) gathered together and decided that the Seventh Fairy cast a spell to send the land itself into sleep, that the sleepers might be preserved and protected from the deaths which time held for them should they not awake soon.

And soon awake, they did not.

A year of steadfast winter passed- for so, too, was the land frozen in time, that they who slept could be. As the winter season came to meet its rightful place again, the Sidhe again took council to discuss all that they had learned of the plants, and at last the Seventh Fairy suggested that the bushes be burned. It was the only solution which any could find, and all agreed that it must be done.

Thus it was, that the seven leaders set out through their lands, uprooting the plants and setting them to flame. The smoke rose high into the air for seven days and seven nights, and when at last the ash had settled, the world slowly awoke.

Awake, but not without cost.
