Materials: watercolour pencil and pigment-ink pen.This pic was done in response to 2010 Chinese New Year Contest.
After I completed the chibi tiger mask (even before I went on to the rest of the picture), I was inspired by its expression to write a short fanfic! The title, of course, is TIGER MASK. ^_^ [link]
For those of you who do not know, the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac are Rat, Cow, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Chicken, Dog and Pig. These animal icons are on the "wall", with the Chicken totally hidden behind Reishin's head.
Just in case you are not a Saiunkoku fan, the "insider" joke to the tiger mask is that in the anime, Kijin is a weirdo who is never seen without a mask. Reishin is his good friend (and lover?) who makes a whole array of masks for him.
In the anime, Reishin is always carrying a fan, so I have drawn him with a fan suitable for Chinese New Year. The chinese character on the fan means "spring" as the Chinese new year falls in spring.

That's alright - I'm glad everything is okay with you! I have been very busy to! I have been (trying) to get stuff together for college - I'm going back for my Masters so I have been trying to do some research! I went on a cruise to Alaska with my friend - I have so many great pictures, just no time to sort through them and update. Currently I'm downloading a bunch of my favorites and saving them and doing backups - so tedious!

I want to do cultural anthropology so I asked if I could do something with comic books and how they depict the concept/idea of American gender - and how American gender concepts are influenced by comic books. I haven't gotten the exact phrasing of my project. But I also want to look at how the audience perceives gender and how the artists depict it

haha, actually, Kijin's face is never shown in the anime. He's this weirdo that wears masks all the time in public. And guess what, Reishin is the one that makes these exquisite masks -- with movable mouth panels to allow him to eat! And ALL that is canon too!
This tiger mask is not canon. It's just an illustration for my fanfic.
In the anime, the mask that Kijin wears most often, his "face", is quite beautiful. Click on the link if you want to know what Kijin usually looks like. ^_^

I love drawing the costumes in this anime. I've always preferred to draw traditional costumes of any type. Much more fun than the space uniforms in Toward the Terra, for example! ^_^

Am I glad SOMEONE saw them for the coloured clouds that they are supposed to be! I got kinda worried when my sis said they looked like colourful balloons. Balloons for Chinese New Year? Oh well.
