Description Finally finished the promo image for April's NSFW Patreon Mini Comic!

April's Mini Comic will focus on what happens when the Half Elf (Quarter Elf technically) adventurer Edric encounters the buxom, and very curious, Hauflin woman Jayella during the celebrations in a small Hauflin village.

The comic will be three pages long and contain adult content. It will be available to all those who pledged $4 or more on my Patreon page during the month of April.

nice promo.

I have to ask though: what is a hauflin in this setting? A type of battle oriented Hobbit or something else?

Cheers dude!

Hauflin is the Scottish word for a Halfling, so yeh she's basically a Hobbit, but with less copyright and trademark issues

like halflings in warhammer or Rhea in Goblin slayer hehe

it works even better when there's some physical or cultural differences and not only a namechange.

But it remains to be seen what kind of little people the hauflin are.

trivia, in danish it's barely a change in name, halfling = halvling.

Right now they are mostly still generic Halflings, but once they've had more opportunity to appear in the comic I'm sure I'll be able to develop them into their own unique culture

Also that is an interesting translation, that might be where InCase got the names for his own Haflings, the Havlin, for his Alfie webcomic

I have't heard about the Havlin or InCase, is that webcomic any good?

and what is its' name?

InCase is the artist, and the webcomic's name is Alfie.

I would warn you though it is very, very NSFW, but also has a very good story about a Halfling girl trying to escape her boring village.

Io9 actually did an article about it if you're thinking about checking it out.

ahh, I have actually seen this somewhere else, just didn't click on it.

No worries about the NSFW, I don't read webcomics around people anyhoo.

first thing I did was find the article about it on Tv Tropes though, ok page, but spoiler heavy beyond your dreams and far from all the content is written skillfully.

Well that's a shame dude.

Still I recommend Alfie, if you don't mind the nsfw content, it's actually got a pretty deep and meaningful story with interesting characters.

Plus it's just a normal story about relationships in a fantasy setting, no end of the world quest stuff at all, which is refreshing

I reading as I type, think I got the first chapter down by now,

the artwork is exquisite and I'm very impressed InCase manages to be consistent about it,

much better than what happens on Goblins where you sometimes have to wait weeks for an update.

Ahh you might be in for a surprise, I'm pretty sure he went back and re-did the art for the first chapter, because he was kinda just making it up as he went along for fun, and started with these horizontal comic pages, but later when he decided to make a proper go of it, he changed to the normal vertical pages. But even still, the original pages are of a super high quality already, so it's not a problem.

Also yeh he does not have that same problem as the Goblins webcomic, he's stuck to a 4 page a week schedule for quite a while now. In fact he's had to take a couple of small breaks from the comic because keeping up with that schedule was too punishing for him. For one chapter later on he even changes the coloru scheme of the comic to make it easier and quicker to make, but he reverts back to full colour later on.

hmm bummer, still not bad that InCase redoes the art
(although it feels slightly like a rerelease but if this is the result it's not a minus)

I'd be surprised if the guy could keep that pace up or long, that frequency is just torment

Obhan In reply to TzaoTao [2019-05-10 02:43:50 +0000 UTC]

Yeh I don't know how he does it, though I think his other gallery image uploads have become more irregular as a result, so that might be it.

Still if I could draw as well as he could, I'd probably try to keep it up as much as possible too.

It still bothers me I had to drop my comic down from 3 pages a week to 1.

evolving as an artist mean that it's hard to keep up the high standard,

especially when it comes to long stories that requires consistecy and have to have frequent updates.

Man I heard that, I used to run two webcomics simultaneously with three pages a week each, and now I'm struggling to keep one updated once a week...

TzaoTao In reply to Obhan [2019-06-02 06:23:42 +0000 UTC]

Hey, you're still way more active than the guy who runs Goblins,Β
once took over 6 months for an update,
and it's far from uncommon to wait 2-3 weeks for a new one,
even if that's just an update to a single page with more shades.

Obhan In reply to TzaoTao [2019-06-18 14:26:50 +0000 UTC]

Wow it's been ages since I've checked up on that comic... and it's looking super weird atm, fair enough

I would say that his art style is much more elaborate and painterly than mine is, plus I think he still draws the base comic by hand, which adds to the creation time.

But still inconsistent updates 2-3 weeks apart isn't a great sign.

That might be one of the reasons that I've found it hard to develop my art style any further, if it gets harder to draw, it'll be harder to make those weekly updates. Even now I'm starting to crunch the numbers and not liking what I'm seeing in regards to creation time and upload rate as it is

TzaoTao In reply to Obhan [2019-06-19 17:18:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it's kinda a funny situation with that comic,
never knows when a new page is up or if there's going to be a long hiatus,
but have to hand it to the guy, he's developed his art over the years, the first couple of pages are quite simple and lacks a lot of things.
but when he decides to just add shadows or a sketch as an update, it's not good for the readers
(or choose to focus on characters that haven't had a major part in the plot for a while).

As far As I've recalled, You've never just added new details instead of a new page, and that is laudable.

Obhan In reply to TzaoTao [2019-06-22 03:59:03 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeh, It's one of the things I'm most proud of with the comic, I've never missed a new update.

It might not have the best art, or writing occasionally and I've had problems keeping the overarching plot from meandering, but I've never been unable to upload a page.

Problem is I reckon that's probably not as good an accomplishment as maintaining a higher quality comic. After all if I'm reading a comic I wouldn't mind if it's updates are irregular if the base quality more than makes up for it

And it's a shame about Goblins, still here's hoping he's able to work his way out of his funk, it was a great comic to read.

TzaoTao In reply to Obhan [2019-06-22 06:57:55 +0000 UTC]

maintaining quality is hard, so is evolving one's style,
specially when the artist isn't missing an update.

Speaking about art evolution, sometimes it' doesn't work out for the better.
I remembered this comicΒ www.twogag.com/archives/3617 ,
it started out with a poor style,
evolved into something pretty ok at the time of the link,
and then developed into semi-superdeform style as of the latest update.
not an improvement.

And I agree, Goblins have been a great series so far, engaging characters, pretty clever punchline, great work at showing the gray and grey morality-
I personally look forward to the following arcs, especially when, or if, the goblins revive their chieftain. I think he had some nice potential, not to mention a plotline that wasn't followed up on (or have just been left to stew) on this pageΒ goblinscomic.com/comic/1106200… .
