A mother clings to her baby;Blue and fading.
Tiny crimson fingers
Grip red-stained blankets.
For the very last time,
The child breathes and slips into sleep
And her mama weeps.
She sings,
"Goodnight love
Goodnight my baby girl.
Too much pain you've seen
Since I brought you into this world.

A mother of four years
Grips her child tonight.
Softly, she cries
And whispers a sweet goodbye.
The father's in the corner
In a blood-slicked, crumpled heap,
So she sits and weeps.
