Tear's POV:
The men were dressed in black, and we couldn't see their faces. They were leading horses who had cylinder-shaped attachments on their saddles. They roughly pushed the people out of the way and up to us. They looked like they were going to hurt us, but they moved aside to reveal a smaller, paler man with a scroll in his hand.
"The Choosing will now begin! One by one, the victi- ahem, I mean the children will try to summon possible abnormal abilities using this." the pale man said as he moved aside to reveal..
Water, a whole bucket of it. That could last us twenty lifetimes with voices! At that moment, when my eyes widened with astonishment, I saw what the men in black were here for. About fifteen or so homeless people were trying to get to the water, as the men in black held them back from getting to it. A few of the desperate parents tried to, too. But my Mom stayed back, because we both knew that trying was useless. I talked with my friends, Lapis, Sky, Teal, Cerulean, Navy, Frost, and Arctic while the pointless fight for water continued. Soon, the homeless citizens were unconscious on the ground because they had started biting the guards.
"Uh.. now let's continue! We'll start with Teal Colour. Please come behind this curtain." The man said as he guided Teal behind a curtain the men had set up. She was worried, so I patted her on the back and smiled. Her expression told me she was more confident, and went behind the curtain with him. I got bored after a while, and so did my friends.
Suddenly, I smelled smoke and heard someone running quickly away. Then I saw Teal run out from behind the curtain, her clothes badly singed, her face black with smoke, and looking frantically behind her. She shook her head vigorously and pointed to the curtain. I could tell that meant something bad, but I didn't know what.
"Teal Colour has no trace of water magic. May Frost Snow come behind the curtain now?" the pale man said as Frost worriedly walked behind the curtain. Again, I heard the same noises I heard on Teal's testing, and Frost ran out, singed. I started to worry as I heard the pale man say the rest of my friend's names during the next few tests.
"Aqua Blue."
"Turquoise Blue."
"Lapis Gem."
"Navy Denim."
"Cerulean Azure."
"Sky Rain."
The same thing happened to all of them, and they all ended up covered in ash and singed. I wondered what was going on behind that curtain while it was Sky's turn.
Right before it was Arctic's turn, I warned her in sign-language to tell me after if anything unusual happens, and she nodded. I was very worried for the safety of my friends and myself. Sky sprinted out from behind the curtain, and her special berry blue purse was on fire. I helped Sky put it out as the pale man came from behind the curtain.
"Sky Rain has no trace of water magic. May Arctic Freeze come behind the curtain?" he said as Arctic smiled and gave a thumbs up to me as she was led behind the curtain. I heard the same noises, but this time Arctic walked out slowly, covered in soot, and shook her head no weakly.
"Arctic Freeze has no trace of water magic, and may our last child, Tear Drop, come with me behind the curtain?" the pale man said, reaching his hand out to me. Part of me wanted go with him and see what happens, and the other part said not to go because it might be dangerous. I was having a mental battle, and curiosity won. I took his hand and went behind the blue, obsidian-thread curtain. Wait, obsidian thread is only used to make fire-proof things. Why would the curtain need to be fire-proof?
I wondered about this as I looked behind the curtain and saw two chairs. I sat down in one, and the man sat in the other. "This shouldn't be too bad.", I thought to myself before I put the puzzle pieces together in my brain and realized.
Smoke, singed clothes, bag on fire, fire-proof curtain.
He was going to do something involving fire, and it wasn't going to be good.
