Description
More Doctor Who fanart - this time just companions! Or assistants. Whichever you prefer. As you can infer from the title, these are doctors who ended up being guests on the TARDIS. Just the MDs for now, but considering the gaps in my Classic Who knowledge, I may have overlooked someone. Did I leave anyone out?
Left to Right:
Harry Sullivan: Traveled with Four. Harry just has such an easy going and amiable disposition that it's hard not to like him. His very earnest old fashioned sensibilities make such a good foil for Four's wackiness and Sarah Jane's feisty personality. I think he has a little bit of a soft spot for our dear Sarah Jane, do you?
Grace Holloway: (sort of) Traveled with Eight. Grace, Grace, Grace. You have phenomenal cheekbones, you can perform surgery in an evening gown (not sure why you did, but you can), you managed to rewire the TARDIS and save the world, and the Doctor kissed you more times in an hour and a half than he did Rose Tyler in four seasons or River Song in two. AND YET. You said no when he said "come with me"??? HOW. WHY. Grace, I can't even.
Martha Jones: Traveled with Ten. Martha is absolutely one of my favorite companions. I love how smart she is (she always asks the questions I want to ask!) and how kind - I mean, she follows the Doctor around giving people first aid in the wake of the inevitable destruction. Also, she likes Harry Potter. Seriously, Martha Jones is amazing.

Well, it is a pretty recent picture, but I was just counting MDs, so I didn't include Rory. That does seem to be his ultimate ambition though, so I hope his storyline goes there after the Ponds make their exit from the Tardis.
I guess Rory and Harry both do tend to be a bit on the unassuming side at first, and then end up being more heroic than expected.

She does have epic cheeks! Ok so Harry traveled with 4 -was 4 Doctor a woman? Or were they having a buddy cop?
So i think my favorite is Martha, she's just really gorgeous in this.

The Doctor has so far always been male (according to a season 6 ep, Time Lords can change gender when they regenerate, but after a millennium of being a dude I think it's going to stick?). Four is the really iconic old timey Doctor with the fedora and the long multicolored scarf.
Companions(/assistants) could really be anybody. There's a slight preference for attractive young women (I think this is related to the viewer demographic, to be honest), but the Doctor really just invites people he meets and gets along with to come on adventures with him. Despite my massive amounts of Doctor/Rose art, it's pretty uncommon for there to be romantic feelings involved.

I DID NOT KNOW HARRY WAS A DOCTOR!! omg seriously? OK, I've only watched Genesis of the Daleks as far as Fourth Doc and friends are concerned - that was all I could get hold of. Wow, that's interesting.
Obviously Martha and Grace I know. Took me a while to get used to Martha, but then I didn't want to see her go. And naturally Grace... well, what can you say about her, she's perfect and my favourite companion for very good reasons. In fact, one day I think I'll make a list...

I haven't seen Harry's first episode (in which I think he's taking care of newly regenerated Four?), but his being a doctor comes up in "Ark in Space" when Sarah Jane gets put in stasis or something. And there's a bubblewrap monster. It's pretty excellent. I love Harry, he's so ... so... British. In the best way.
Grace is ridiculously gorgeous and I freaking love that she has a microscope in her living room.
I would be curious to see your list! I have a hard time picking favorites among the companions, there are a lot of awesome ones and I love them for different reasons.

Bubblewrap monster?! Oh dear! I love the old school Who monsters. Especially the old cyberman. They look like people in cloth suits that have been sprayed with shiny spraypaint wearing buckets with faces painted on them on their heads. I remember watching one story arc with the 2nd Doctor (the only one I have with him) and it was all about them accidentally waking up the Cybermen. And then in the end they sent them back into stasis sleep - which involved them playing in reverse a shot of them breaking through a cling-wrap covered entrance so that the "void" "repaired itself" once they'd gone though. Special effects much!
I will work on said list and let you know.

I almost always prefer old school "special" effects to CGI that I can tell is CGI, even if they are ridiculous. At least it looks like it's really in the room with the actors, even if it looks like a person wrapped in dozens of layers of bubblewrap and then spray painted green. And sometimes it can be surprisingly well done - old fashioned forced perspective blows my mind.
I looove the miniature shots of the Tardis in super early Who. It makes me want to build little Tardis dioramas or something.

I regret I haven't seen anything before Nine. But the Harry Potter thing sold me on Martha! I would have to say I prefer Rose of the NuWho companions so far, but Martha is by far the best doctor/nurse (apart from the Doctor, of course.) ...sorry Rory. I love your art! Great work!

Thanks for looking, glad you like it.
I really love Rose, Martha, and Donna almost equally. I think I identify the most with Martha? I also watched the show crazy out of order initially, so I saw season 3 episodes early on and got attached to Martha before I figured out what to make of the Doctor.
Classic Who is very fun, I've been really enjoying checking it out. The pace takes some getting used to - things just move a little slower than they do on modern tv. And as for the tv movie with Eight... well, it's cheesy as heck but I kind of love it.
