THIS. IS. SO. GREAT!
I'm so sorry I didn't comment sooner! I saw it while I was home, but things were really busy what with reunion planning/vacation planning/wedding planning/participation, and I try not to stay on the internet too long since my Dad has limited plan and has to pay a ton if it goes over. Buuuut, anyway! Now I can gush and gush to my heart's content. This is one of the best things you've ever painted, in my opinion. It looks very beautiful and very complete -- the simple background is painted delicately and adds a really nice texture and neutral tone to help join the very colorful cast of characters. I love the wide range of expressions and poses. They look SO very much like how I picture them. It makes me hope that one day, J.K. Rowling stumbles across this and appreciates it. 
Also, I love Lupin. Have I mentioned that before? Maybe not. I love Lupin. And he looks so great here, all clear-eyed and competent. I like that you downplayed his "patchiness" for this picture. They look like a really formidable bunch. I am so in love with how you painted Kingsley's suit: nice design, nice richness of color. I don't know, it just looks really good. Do you know, I have a shirt very much like the one Tonks is wearing? She looks so pretty and yet so fierce -- that red hair means business! I also really, really like the angular white magic of Sirius' wand. I saw that it wasn't your original intent, but it came out sooo nicely! Hmm... also, I love that Lupin and Sirius are back to back. Go Marauders!

I'm glad you like the painting, and very glad to hear that the characters are close to your mental images. The movies were so extremely different from I pictured any of these folks that it actually was much easier to keep a hold on my original notions of how they should look - blessing in disguise?
You may have mentioned the Lupin-love, but it bears repeating. Interesting that you thought his shabby appearance was downplayed. I actually thought he ended up looking even shabbier than usual just from standing next to Kingsley in his ridiculously sharp suit!
The "magic" effect there was one of those "I'm going to do this and I really really hope it's not a mistake" situations when you're right at the end of a painting. Luckily I don't think it was. Phew. (The way it turned out, I thought it might be the beginning of a Patronus? It made me wonder what Sirius's Patronus is.)

Kingsly is like, what is wrong with you people. Learn to dress yourselves. Have some style. Why the fuck do I look like a nigerian prince in the movies. He's totally my fav, awesome job with his outfit and expression. What a hottie!
This is one of the best Lupin's you've done, too, his eyes came out so clear, I love them. Sirius' wand magic awesome spreading up to the sky is kick ass. I love the new thing you're doing with white light over dark backgrounds, it always comes out so well. Also, love Sirius' windswept hair.
Gotta agree with Erin that Tonks is amazing, I love the color on her face and her expression of menace. You also gave her an adorable outfit.
...Moody... well he's still terrifying.

Kingsley is a snappy dresser, indeed.
I had kinda intended to use the white of the paper for magic effects like I did with the picture of just Sirius and Lupin (and also for the smoke for all smoking doughboys I've painted), but it just didn't work out. I'm glad the undiluted white paint looks good though! It makes for an interesting texture effect, I think.
I dunno, I think Tonks might be a little bit too cute to actually be menacing?
And Moody well... I honestly think it would be scarier if he actually smiled. We'll stick to the scowls for now.

I love the expressions here. Particularly Tonks. I loved the old one where everyone else was kind of serious and Tonks was just, very happy, but the leaning in and looking menacing is so awesome. She is just perfect.
Mad Eye Moody is terrifying. You were right.
Also I never realized Kingsly was so good looking. but man. he is good looking. and well dressed. Very business like robes!

There are things I like about the old version, but it ... has not aged very well. I wanted to redo it a bit differently, that's all.
I thought Moody looked about the same but I think he is even scarier this time around. And yeah, Kingsley is sharp! He seems like a cool dude, I wish we saw a bit more of him in the books.
