It looks more like a wire than a lasso though, but... on the other hand have I read that catgut (the material used for the lasso (as you probably know) which actually isn't the guts of a cat (but anyway). Which was back then often used as, you guess it, strings for musical instruments like, yes, violins.) is quite thin, so... I can live with it
