Description
Response to some of the anthro characters posted here has been very positive but apart from Sheeri and Ursula, they're other people's OCs...throw a bit of Greek mythology and uncounted double-shots of rum at the problem and the answer presents itself. This is Rosa, a thoroughly modern minotaur done in a more anthro style. Much like Ursula she's one of my heavyweights, with more of a powerlifter/offseason build. The technical quality on this one turned out better than I'd hoped so I think she's a keeper, even though she's in the typical one-arm bicep flex that I do way too much of these days. Eh, screw it...its a shortcoming.Of course the bikini is red, you just can't tell.

Well I certainly approve; but then again, I tend to approve of most beefcake girls (er, pun not intended).

Oh you know I'll be asking for this one for the AW08 treatment. Liking the combination of tone and softness.

I dig it. Beefy, meaty, but without that saran-wrap look of the super-serious bodybuilders.

I see what you did there. It occurred to me when designing her that the vast majority of bodybuilders I've known over the years - whether male or female - only have that ultra-ripped physique a few weeks before competition. Most of the time? Nah.

It's actually rather unhealthy, sad to say, because to get that ultra-tight look, you have to be pretty badly dehydrated. It's not uncommon for performers to faint onstage, especially if the lights are particularly bright/hot, causing them to sweat out what little water they have in them and get heatstroke. You look at "World's strongest Man" competitions and the like and they're generally much softer by appearance.

Its because bodybuilding comps are beauty pageants, whereas strongman comps are sporting events.

Exactly. So I much prefer the bodies of the latter than the former.

With the minor exception of the belly-pudge (I like /some/ visibility of abs, after all) I daresay this is probably my ideal fem-muscle look. Solidly built, with good tone, but not so ripped they look like an anatomy chart covered in flesh-colored paint.

When I said that I was going to try and rework my style so as to cast a wider net to newer audiences, one of the things I focused on is trying to balance is strength vs definition. That's always a fine line...too little definition and a character might look out of shape; too much and you start losing a lot of the folks who think that they look too shredded and inhuman. Where is that line? Hard to say, but its fun experimenting with it.
Mina here's a bit of an eater though, so she's always gonna be a bit soft. One thing I'm discovering is that unusual body types tend to work on anthros more than they do on regular humans...why is that? Probably because a lot of animals are awkwardly built to begin with, and so we come to expect that a bit.

Yeah, going with anthro characters does tend to allow the artist to be a bit more forgiving with their anatomy, since, being non-human, they don't trigger the "uncanny-valley" perceptions as easily.
