Description
This is Pearl from The Scarlet Letter, which I thought was a wonderful story, despite being terribly heart-wrenching. The dress is not historically accurate; I just had fun with it. It is based off of the description in the book of her elaborate red and gold dress that seemed to transform her into a living, breathing version of the Scarlet Letter itself, and the scandal it stands for.

The scene is this:
"But the child, annaccustomed to the touch of familiarity of any but her mother, escaped through the open window, and stood on the upper step looking like a wild tropical bird, of rich plumage, ready to take flight into the upper air."
