The only thing that matters are the few original characters that the story is about; Sora & the gang.

Ah, that's what you meant. Alrighty, I guess I can see your point there. The Disney worlds and the characters of them form a setting, but you're right...the real meat of the story is with Sora and the other original characters. All others are just window dressing. Important, crucial window dressing...but window dressing all the same.

Not even important or crucial. It's like whole WORLDS don't have a point in the game, it's just re-watching famous Disney moments. It's like you get to Hallow Bastion in each game and go, "Oh, here's where the story was". The re-living Disney moments kind of bothered me too, because I feel like you should at least be able to do NEW things or have a new adventure with the Disney characters. No, I don't care about Cinderella's glass slipper, I've already seen that.

You're definitely right about that. The first game covered it better by not having much of a plot outside of the Disney worlds to begin with, but yes, each game gets further and further from having much to do with the worlds. Birth By Sleep has done it better than any other game so far, but only barely, and it's still not that great even there.

Yes, Kingdom Hearts II's plot pretty much exploded, especially if you didn't play Chain of Memories like myself. How did they expect kids to know what the hell was going on? How many versions of Ansem are there?? And by Ansem I don't mean that at all, I mean Xehanort. There's nothing wrong with zillions of plot twists in a Squeenix game, but, when you're following such a simplistic, kid-friendly game with a mindfuck it's a little confusing.
And Birth by Sleep is like one giant ending, anything important happens near the end. You're on the right track, guys! The ending is often the worst part of RPGs and games in general. Just make sure you... you know, design the rest of your game next time.

I'll definitely agree that the story keeps getting far more complex with each iteration...even I have trouble keeping up with it sometimes, and relatively speaking I've had almost no trouble understanding most of its plot turns.
However, I would disagree that Birth by Sleep is one giant ending. The point to Birth by Sleep wasn't the ending, but how they got there, why they got there. It connects deeply with the rest of the series, and like every other game, requires that you've played the other games to fully understand it, including 358/2 Days and some of the secret scenes in the Final Mixes that we here outside of Japan don't have access to.
So you're definitely right about the ridiculousness of its complexity. It's just going to get worse, I think...but I'll still have a ball playing the games.

Which I am fine with, however horribly out of place it is, because a simple story doesn't do it for me anymore. BAD THING YOU MUST STOP just isn't motivating when I've done it thousands of times. I almost hate when any story part of a Mario game interrupts gameplay these days. x.x
And it still doesn't seem to me like anything other than the big intertwined final battle had a point. The beginning of the game, maybe, but even that's like "TEE HEE, WE HAVE CHARMS AND ARE FRIENDS". The middle is usual Kingdom Hearts affair, going around the Disney worlds doing absolutely nothing related to the plot. It was only till the end where it was like OHNOES-TERRA-XEMNAS.

Well, a large part of the plot of Birth By Sleep had more to do with the interactions and relationships between Terra, Ventus, and Aqua. It's hard to see the full story until you've played through all three of their individual stories, since each one interconnects and introduces stuff only expanded on in the next one. Braig, for example, comes out of nowhere at the end of Ven and Aqua's story if you hadn't played Terra's first where he's introduced.
Still, I suppose how much of a point everything had depends upon how attached you felt to the characters and to the overall mythology of the series. If you don't feel that attached, it's not going to mean anything at all.

Well, given the game actually has a timeline that's what it wants you to think.
I think a big mistake was playing as Terra first. Man, was his story the best ("Mission: Take back your body!" is the best mission update I've ever heard), but everything else... not so much. I was excited to play as Aqua next but she had the most boring story out of the three. I thought being THE CHOSEN ONE would be a little more exciting.

Actually, playing as Terra first was the way you were meant to play it, according to Nomura. That's how the story unfolds best without spoilering things from other stories.
The next person to play as is Ventus, and then you play as Aqua.
At least for story purposes that's the order recommended to play in, and it's even suggested to you in game, the way how at story selection it spins around the three in that order, of Terra, Ven, then Aqua, then stops back at Terra.
Personally I was hooked throughout the entire thing when I played it, but then I had kept myself in the dark about every single detail, and as I said I'm a big fan of the series, so I might have enjoyed the story a bit more than others might have. There were some weak spots for sure, though.

Oh, well F it then. It is the way that makes the most sense though, I guess. I got mad at a few parts in Ven and Aqua's stories where I clearly wouldn't have known what the hell something meant if I hadn't played Terra's part first. I don't know why I got mad since I DID... maybe it was just the idea of it, like it felt sloppy or something.
That would have been a little bit nice if they forced or 'directly' told you which order to play it in, as I can see what you mean about Aqua, since a few parts left me scratching my head. Like a completely random Vanitas battle that came out of no where. I was like, "WHY WERE YOU EVEN HERE? I played Terra's part and that still made no sense!".
But hey, having the choice is what other people probably like about it. Having a story of discovery over the-most-logical-path is probably funner.

Well, I don't hate Disney. I love they're Classics but I hate Hannah Montana and junk. It just makes me sick that some of my friends can listen to that kind of music all day (I don't mind that they like her but it pisses me of when they put the musics ringing on theirs phone when I'm present). I don't like her, neither I like Jonas Brothers. (And other thing that pisses me of too is that many people think that just because we have 10 to 13 years that we like that kind of things but I have 13 years old I don't like them...)
