I love the intensity in this picture. It is serious yet there is some hope in this picture. For some reason, the atmosphere hints me that Inga is going to spit the blue guy out. Great job. ^^

To tell you the truth I have never used the dodge and burn tool in all my years working in photoshop. There really isn't a technique either... I just use my tablet and draw around with a flat brush and somtimes I tweak with the blending options and the opacity of the layers.

so you use a different color for the darker areas? im thinking of discontinuing my use of the burn and dodge tools. does photoshop have a flatbrush? (my version doesnt but thats cuz i have elements 3.0)

im sure you have a plain old brush. Its the first one on the list just make it a little bigger. And after i do the shading i tweak the blending options to get some areas darker than the others, and make sure the layer property is multipy,
