Are you choosing a lighter colour manually or applying a photoshop effect/opacity

And yes, this is know as "Atmospheric perspective": the furthest the object, the lighter and bluerΒ it looks, asΒ atmospheric particles (water, dust, pollution...) get in the way.
Also, yes: I "cook" all the colors manually
