Description Something I have noticed more and more in the online community, not just in the IZ fandom, but the internet as a whole. Is the over sexualization of rape. Artists and writers drawing content meant to appeal to people for it being 'forced,' honestly this turn on the mental mindset of people online worries me.

In many of the artistic mediums you will find art pieces relating to this kind of topic, whether it being in the popular 'yaoi' books that many at some point indulge in. This mindset of rape being a ploy to use for a good time, forcing someone onto someone else becoming a arousing sight. Its rather concerning to me.

Rape is a traumatizing, mentally scaring thing, and people carry the marks of it for the rest of their lives. It can change people, make them into someone entirely different then they originally were.

Some victims of rape blame themselves, never speak up about what was done to them, and instead feel guilt for having been so weak. Curl inward, and hide away. Feeling if anyone was to know their judgmental eyes would fall upon them.

Rape leaves the victim fractured in a un-explainable way, some push through it while others, fall apart. Try and pretend such a thing never occurred, when they cannot cope with the concept they allow themselves to slip into the blissful grasps of denial.

Even sexual abuse can leave people completely broken, no matter if it was taken to the final point of forced sex or not. It is mentally damaging, and can make it difficult for people to interact with others in the future. Or to trust.

The baggage of such a hurtful event hangs onto the people, and never really goes away.
They can't wash away the marks from their attackers hands, and they cant protect themselves from the contorting paths of their own minds.

What if I hadn't dressed that way..
What if I hadn't taken that turn
Why did I trust them
Why did I let them do that to me
Why didn't I fight back.

Rape isn't sexy, its damaging, it leaves scars.

Scars that often never heal completely.

I feel awful for Enya.

You're right though. Rape and other such crimes are over glorified and sexualized on the internet.

I would imagine Enya feeling completely violated with no privacy left. She's all curled up trying to hide but all of those purple 'eyes' staring at her really give this piece an eerie and exposed feeling. Were you aiming for that with the background? Because you nailed it in my opinion.

Yeeeeesh, all those eyes...freaky.

Rape is a nasty thing. It happens to too many people and it happens too often. It kills the person mentally and it kills the family and friends around that they have to watch their love one go under

It's a very cruel and awful thing to do. I hate it. People are sick minded when they do that to other so if anyone ever did it then they'll go to Hell. It's a awful thing. It sickens me to just think of the word. I only wish for love and peace in the world, but it'll take a LOT of work and effort into doing it.

Aw nooooo Enya D: Is this canon for her?? 8(

I totally get what you mean, though, and totally agree. It's... not a pretty subject, and the fact that we live in a rape culture seriously disturbs me. Personally, rape is one of the things that scares me most, to the point where it makes me uncomfortable to even type the word.

Which is why I tried to reflect the more realistic reaction to it in my own characters' storyline but I won't hijack the comments to talk about my own characters ahaha

Regardless, really great job on conveying that emotion, and that background is so amazingly detailed omg. Beautifully tragic piece.

I honestly hate the word. I can't it always make me wanna cry. This has been going through my mind a lot and it's seriously scary for me. I honestly don't think I'll be able to pull myself together after an event like that were to happen. I pray it doesn't and pray for those who are struggling because of it. I'm always looking over my shoulder and my surrounds and it's not fun being scared all the time.

This is a wonderful piece with words that ring with truth and people should understand it's not the victims fault.

Rape is seriously one of most disgusting things to do. And somehow it's made a joke. Rape-culture, victim blaming...
this got me emotional

If that is true then perhaps you'd like to justify your own characters mm? "After that Moe had enough and decided to take "joy" out of this little Irken he had, making Zake his little pet." I see no emotional affects of rape with this Zake of yours here. Which is unrealistic I thought, someone who got a huge dick forcibly shoved up their ass would not be in any way willing to become a couple with their rapist, if they did then it's likely due to stockholm syndrome and that should not ever be romanticized ever it is a horrible and sad thing to happen to a person. And if he really has "depression and panic problems" then this would be even more detrimental to his mental health than it would alone.

Normally I wouldn't've said anything and just kept quiet about your couple as much as it ticks me off to see romanticization of rape, but this comment bewildered me. You may in fact have rape experience and if you do I apologize but it is remarkable to me that you would make a comment like this when you yourself have a character that raped another (despite you saying it's disgusting) and they grew a relationship out of it.

People who experience rape...

  • Their sense of personal security or safety is damaged.
  • They feel hesitant to enter new relationships.
  • Questioning their sexual identity or sexual orientation (more typical of men raped by other men).
  • Sexual relationships become disturbed. Many survivors have reported that they were unable to re-establish normal sexual relations and often shied away from sexual contact for some time after the rape. Some report inhibited sexual response and flashbacks to the rape during intercourse. Conversely, some rape survivors become hyper-sexual or promiscuous following sexual attacks, sometimes as a way to reassert a measure of control over their sexual relations

I do apologize if I somehow misunderstood your characters or yourself.

Well I guess Zake has some kind stockholm syndrome, since he is stuck in same space ship with Moe. But Moe never actually raped him. Moe is not my character, but he is villain, some short. But if Zake really said no, Moe wouldn't push him down with force. Moe is been violent with him, almost beating him with death. But with sex he is more careful, for many reasons, one being that Zake is so small size ans unstable by mind.

I used to have those characters who had really been raped by their lovers. But it was the time me being...I dunno, 15...? And I didn't think much how serious business it was. I made joke about it, since everyone else did too. But in 4 years I've started think it more and understand it more.

Moe's and Zake's relationship is not healthy. Hell no. Moe is abusive and hits him, Zake is unstable and depressed and it's no fit. But at the same time Moe is all Zake has left. It's not healthy, but they try to work the relationship together.

I've never been a fan of overly sexualized, rape-centered art for a variety of reasons. I think it's painfully overused and much too causally. It's also just plain old disturbing! I look at art to feel a little bit better about the world and the people in it and that just doesn't help. Maybe that's just me being naive, but that's how I look at it.

That being said, I really have to hand it to you, Miss Tea, for tackling a disturbing topic, which is seldom depicted with any seriousness! You didn't soften what was going on, you didn't try to make it 'sexy,' and you didn't glamorize it. Stunning piece for the topic!

I think near everything is sexualized, not merely rape, but rape, unfortunately, is now becoming more commonly used in fiction. It is no longer just an easy, cheap, lowest common denominator way to set up a backstory for a character, it's an easy way to inject drama into a work.

I'll quote someone smarter than me: "rape is the absolute worst thing a human being can to do another. Such a thing, if included in a narrative, brings it to a grinding halt. You have to focus in on it and the consequences. And you do not diminish this violent act by making it a B-Plot." Unfortunately, too many artists do.

It's a relief when others actually address it seriously as a real issue that shouldn't be glamorized. Doing that, or sexualizing it, serves to add to our culture in a negative way. Makes us more blasé to it. And this picture brings the horror of rape quite clearly without even actually showing the act. The aftermath alone, her curled up form, the  slowly dripping blood, you can feel her shuddering in horror just looking at this.

Just beautifully done.
