Description

WhEEZE first of all I'd like to say I owe my life to the extension because without it art block would have prevented me from finishing in time when I started this in later October AKLSDAL. But I worked really really hard on this and I'm proud of the result!!! Not to mention I now have a sWEET poster because I did this piece traditionally!!! Its done in mostly colored pencil but I did take some watercolor to the background to help speed things along and get the better texture/effect on the wall. But it had to be put on one of my much larger sketchbooks to fit haha. This was also my first time doing such a detailed scene traditionally so I'm extra happy. But anyways enough of my rambling and lets add on the story.

I'm,,,, so sorry its so long I tried to keep it as short as I could AKSLDKA. Its fairly simple to read though with a lot of dialogue so it should go fast!!! I still,,, apologize though lMAO.

The light of a single candle flickered around the back corner of the old private school lounge. There, three dainties and a rather colorful demon could be found making themselves as comfortable as they could for the night. The building they were currently residing in was actually what used to be the student housing just a little ways off from the main school building itself, but the group figured it would be a bit cozier to set up in a place that was originally meant for sleeping than to camp out in a classroom or something inside the school. Outside you could hear the rain from a storm hitting up against the window panes and the occasional accompanying roll of thunder. It was storming just enough to set the mood right for another Halloween evening but not enough to make sitting in the unfamiliar building any spookier than it already was.
As a flash of lightning temporarily lit up the whole room, Yoana held out one of her strawberry printed blankets to Laurel who was setting up his area at the end of the row after Sophie and Cas. “I hope this one will be enough!!! I really wish I would have brought more blankets with me, I have tons of them. But this is one of the thicker ones at least so it should keep you warm still!” the orange haired Dainty chimed. The other carefully took the blanket from her and did a brief assessment before flashing her a soft grin in reply, “I think it should be fine! Thank you so much for letting me borrow one of yours for the night.” As he started to lay it out with his sleeping bag Yoana took a few hops back to her sleeping setup to continue working on her own as well, “No problem!!! I know this was a little last minute for you, and if you do get cold in the middle of the night don’t be afraid to come over wake me!! I won’t mind I promise. I think there was still some bedding in some of the dorm rooms we peeked at earlier so I can always give you my other one and I’ll use some of that!”
Before Laurel could politely object or either of the two could add anything else at all for that matter, they were interrupted by a rather unattractive mock gag as a shorter blonde dainty walked between the two and over towards where the rest of their belongings were set. “Yoana that’s disgusting!! With how long this place has been sitting around any of the extra bedding here is probably like, covered in mold.. and dust... and bugs... and have holes from things eating through them… and smell really bad… and have weird stains.” Cas shuddered before gently cradling a sprinkle patterned Hello Kitty plush and pink blanket in one arm and dragging a faded rainbow blanket across the floor for Sophie with the other. “I can hardly believe you dragged me here to begin with, this place is foul! Can you remind me again why you thought this would even be a fun idea in the first place? Why couldn’t we just trick-or-treat like last year or even just have a costume party! That stuff is actually fun and much less gross and doesn’t make my skin crawl- Soph could you be a dear and lay this out for me,” they dropped the rainbow blanket to the side closer to where their boyfriend was going to be sleeping and held out their own blanket to him. He accepted it with an unbothered ‘yes babe’ and proceeded to do as he was told.
    “Becaaaauuse!! I was at the library with Cyril a few weeks ago and found a really interesting story about this place. So I thought how exciting would it be to have a SLEEPOVER at an old abandoned rich kid school!!”
    “Sounds more like trespassing and breaking and entering to me but go off I guess,” Sophie added as he finished smoothing Cas’s blanket and gestured for them to sit.

Seeing the gesture Cas plopped down in frustration, still holding the plush tightly “See Sophie agrees this is a bad idea too!”
    Yoana just giggled, “It’ll be fiiiiine! No one comes over here. Everything will be okay!”
    Cas let out and irritated whine before leaning over to their friend who in all the banter had finally comfortably seated himself and was simply observing the others, “Laurel hun, if we all die or get caught I am so sorry for dragging the two of you here with me. I am THE WORST friend in the world.” Laurel chuckled a little before replying, “Cas I get dragged into these kinds of things all the time, it’s fine. I do agree this still is not… the best idea… but it’s a bit more exciting than what I’m usually pulled into! Plus you’re here and if this goes anything like the time we met maybe we will be fine.” He was trying to be comforting and optimistic but there was a hint of uncertainty to his tone to give away that Laurel was still as uneasy as the other two were.
    Yoana carefully moved the candle from the mantle of the nearby fireplace and set in on the floor between Sophie, Cas, and Laurel’s row and her own set up a little ways across. “Okay but listen!! Do you guys wanna hear the story that I read that made me want to check this place out?”
    At the mention of story time Laurel’s ears perked up a bit and Sophie was interested enough to lean in some more curiously as well. Noticing the other two’s interest Cas groaned and scooted in closer with them reluctantly.

Giddy, Yoana bounced a bit in her spot and clapped her hands in excitement, “Eeee!! Great okay so, it’s not a scary story but it is a rather bittersweet one so still be prepared.” She leaned in a little closer herself so that everyone could see each other’s faces more clearly in the candlelight before beginning.
     “Many many years ago when this school was up and running there was a girl by the name Nora that attended here. Misfortune after misfortune came into her life and eventually the poor girl went into the woods surrounding the school and took her own life to stop the emotional pain and the heartache. However while she was in school she met another girl named Gertrude that she developed a crush on. Gertrude had moved away to study abroad which was another event that brought Nora closer to the edge but before she died she wanted to at least confess to her so that even if those feelings would have never been returned if she stayed, they weren’t a secret anymore. But she forgot to include it in her last letter saying goodbye. When Gertrude received the goodbye letter and came rushing back to the school to confirm what had happened she was struck with grief for coincidentally she had loved Nora too and was hoping to confess to her as well, either in their letters or when they met again after their studies. Shaken, she made her way back to where she was staying, but disoriented from what had happened to Nora she hadn’t been paying as much attention as she should and had stepped to cross a street right as a car was on its way down. Not having confessed their feelings to one another the two girls’ ghosts now wander the halls and the yards of this school in a hopeless game of hide-and-seek, a game they’d play together all the time back in their school days, praying that one day they might find the other hiding. But since they are both the seekers, neither ever stays still long enough to be found. And so on and on the game continues as they both hope to one day find their missing half.”
    Yoana sat back again once she finished the story and looked to take in the others’ reactions. Sophie still just had the same curiosity in his face with the remaining traces of attentiveness he had while listening to Yoana speak, Laurel had been intently listening as well and seemed touched by their story, and Cas… wait were they crying?

“Babe are you alright?” Sophie questioned after hearing a sniff from his significant other and leaned around to look at Cas’s face.

“Fine!! Fine, fine I’m just fine. I am absolutely not crying. I don’t believe that story for a second, Yoana you’re still absolutely crazy for thinking this was a fun idea!” they exclaimed while furiously wiping away any tears in their eyes in denial.
    The others started to laugh at the smaller Daint until they all slowly quieted down and turned to face the entrance from the hallway. Approaching the room were footsteps and the sound of a girl humming to herself. Scared of who might be approaching in the abandoned building Laurel pressed closer to Cas, who clutched even tighter to their Hello Kitty and reached to tightly grab their boyfriend’s arm with the other. Sophie stiffened protectively and Yoana… unlike the others watched the door with less fear and more curiosity, leaning forward onto her knees as if she was going to even get up to investigate herself if needed. She didn’t though, for the figure had turned into the room once it had approached the doorway.
    Everyone was now frozen, including the figure that was now revealed to be a pale and semi transparent apparition of what seemed to be a girl around their age. She tilted her head in brief confusion before chuckling awkwardly and approaching, “O-oh hi guys sorry you startled me a bit! There… hasn’t been anyone here for a while so I was just surprised is all! I was starting to wonder where everyone one went…”
    The three huddled together remained frozen exactly as they had been, only shifting their gaze when they noticed Yoana slowly stand up in awe, “Nora?”
    The spirit looked as shocked as everyone else was by Yoana’s comment but when she turned to look at Yoa her face seemed puzzled as if she was trying to figure something out. She began to move closer just as Yoana took a few steps herself and when she got close enough, reached out with both hands to cup Yoana’s face for closer inspection. Yoana didn’t seem phased at all by this, she was still in the same awestruck state as when the spirit first entered the room.
    “Do I… know you by chance? You look really familiar to me but I just can’t put my finger on it-” before she could say any more she was cut off by an ear piercing shriek as Cas released their plush and clung desperately to Sophie’s arm while a cold, pale hand rested on their own.
    “Nora?! Oh my god Nora is that really you!!!!”
    The spirit turned toward the direction of the voice which belonged to another transparent figure of another girl. It took Nora a few moments to process what she was seeing but once it clicked the two ghosts ran towards each other.
    “Gertrude!!!!!!”
    “Oh my heavens Nora, it is you!”
    The two met up and clung to one another immediately, both now sobbing if that was something they could actually do.
    The one now identified as Gertrude placed a hand on either side of Nora’s face and planted a kiss on her forehead, “Oh my god, oh my god oh my god I can’t believe it's you! I actually found you!”
    “Found me?! I found you!! Oh wait you’re here, right now. I have something I wanted to tell you once I found you that I forgot to say before I left...”
    “I have something I wanted to say too!!! Wait wait, I think I know what it is you wanted to say though. Okay on the count of the three lets both say it. Ready? One, two, three-”
    The two locked both hands to each other’s and called out “I love you” in perfect unison. They smiled at each other then broke broke into laughter as more tears formed in their eyes, these ones full of pure delight. They held onto each other and continued to sob and laugh until their voices were only an echo that carried off into the night and the girls themselves had faded away as a sparkling dust that was still just a bit too bittersweet to be compared to glitter.
    The room now still and silent as the remaining four stared dumbfounded at where the girls had just stood, it was again Yoana that had broken the silence.
    “OH MY GOD GUYS DID YOU SEE THAT!!! We just stalled Nora in one place long enough for her and Gertrude to end up in the same place and helped them pass on!! We just completeled a love story!!! THAT WAS WILD!!!!!!!!! See I told you this would be fun and that everything would be okay!”
    The other three just stared at the excited dainty with the same shocked senseless expression on their face. Right then and now they couldn’t process what had just happened but one thing for sure was that this supernatural encounter of well, another supernatural encounter, was something none of them would ever forget.
