Family: Kogaratsu (father), Shoen (mother), Misao (brother), Junya (brother), Kunihiko (brother), Tsurura (sister, deceased), Yuudai (cousin).
Story: Born and raised in a noble family, Sumire was tutored in her family's ground, given a high-class education as well as superior combat training. She shares a close relationship with them, especially her cousin Yuudai and her older brother Misao. She is the lastborn and used to be also very close to her older sister Tsurura, at least until her marriage.
Tsurura married a high-ranking officer from Jaoz's [link] army, Haun, who had apparently reformed and left his homeland. He turned out to be one of the many moles sent to gain intelligence about Eluse's kingdom and how to infiltrate the queen's palace. Tsurura, who loved her husband, never said a thing but knew that she would be in danger if she stayed with him and secretly proceeded to divorce. Haun soon found out and showed his true colours to his wife right before battering her to death.
Sumire and her family saw the horribly bruised body of Tsurura when her remains where brought to them. Although her family advised her not to, she hunted down and brutally murdered her brother-in-law. But it wasn't over. Haun's mother, a powerful witch under the command of Diamosante [link] , the Emperor's mother, retaliated by having Sumire captured and brought to her. She infused Sumire with the Blood Widow, an evil spirit that now possesses her and won't leave until she kills the man she loves.
Her family didn't let her down though and helped her in learning how to control her inner demon.
She is one of the latest recruits among Queen Saran's [link] personal guard and thus ranks less than the others.
Powers: An already skilled swordswoman, Sumire developed her powers as a result of being possessed by the Blood Widow.
She is completely immune to poisons and most drugs but her main powers are over darkness and shadows.
She can see in total darkness and can cast it over medium-sized areas. She is completely undetectable in the dark, even by telepaths. She can teleport herself through shadows but she needs to use more energy if she takes other people with her. Her powers are enhanced at night.
The Blood Widow has caused her to develop a second personality that strives on her strong negative emotions, hence her tight control of herself. If the Blood Widow takes over, she gradually becomes a reddish shadow of herself, grows long sharp claws and starts smiling sadistically. She then becomes very violent, even to her companions, and her speed, strength and stamina are greatly enhanced. But when she comes back to normal, she is exhausted and defenceless if attacked.
The queen gave her a mystical tattoo in her back that further impeaches the Blood Widow from overwhelming her but it doesn't completely negate its effects. The tattoo reads Empusa.
Weapons: Her poisoned naginata and poisoned shurikens.
Weaknesses and annoying traits: Sumire isn't very well suited against light-based attacks and her powers are less effective if the day is bright and clear.
Her harshness is mostly due to the fact that she could kill anyone close to her if she lets go. Still it often passes off as flat out ungratefulness.
Sumire is frigid as a consequence of being enthralled by the evil spirit. Hence, she isn't very comfortable in romantic/sexual situations and doesn't respond when Tahir [link] propositions her in his rather unsubtle ways. Yet she doesn't hate him.
Lastly, she cannot swim and is fearful of water...
