you would never know that the drops of water were coming from a van if you hadn't said anything. that's one of the great things about photography, you can take things out of context and make it a totally different image with a new feel and mood. great work.

This was actually water dripping off the bumper of a parked van into a rain puddle. Cars driving by would splash the van (and me as I tried to catch the image) and the water would drip back down.
The darkness is the shadow under the van, the light is the reflection of the overcast noon sky. I positioned myself so the drips were landing on the border, used a fast shutter speed, and shot till I caught the splash I wanted. Then I made it B&W, cropped it, and enhanced the contrast (all in Picasa2).
In short - good camera, luck, perserverence, and a fair eye for finding unnoticed images.
