Description Ah I was waiting for Dave to receive Matteo in the mail before I can post this guy up!

The mask and goggles are needlefelted, and it was a bit tough since I kept stabbing my finger, and I had to stop before I ended up bleeding all over it, but alas it was worth the pain! I'd say this is one dangerous hobby, or that I'm just that reckless.

I was thinking of just sculpting the mask out of clay but I was afraid he'll shatter so I went with the softer option.

The sewing part was easy and rather relaxing at least~ It took a lot of willpower for me to start making another doll, since I haven't made one for the longest time(and I was really overdue a gift for dear Dave), worried I'm not as good, but I proved myself wrong! Honestly this is the best one I've made!

Here's more pics of Matteo here, if you like to see them:

Mostly made with felt, felting wool, ribbon, wire, love, (maybe with blood and sweat), and some old clothes I hoarded just for stuff like this. With my own pattern~

Thanks again for the birthday wishes!

No problem! I know how that is, not with needles but I used to

work with a hot glue gun all the time and my hands would be covered

in blisters. Ahahah, the pain of crafts! XD

There's no emote I could put here to adequately express my gratitude and love for what you did Sharlene. I love this so much. The fact that you spent so much time on it and even bled to make it means so much to me. This is truly the nicest thing anyone here has ever done for me, and that's saying something because there's been some pretty cool people who's done a lot of nice things for me the past (almost) five years I've been here. So from the bottom of my tiny felt heart in Matteo's messenger bag, thank you so much for this gift. I love it and I love you so much. You've been so sweet to me since we really got to talking to each other.

I'm really glad you didn't go with Clay for his mask. In actuality his mask would be leather and the tip horn part probably red stained and lacquered wood. THen the goggles would fit over it and be stained glass. I think it would be rigid enough to retain its shape but not be made of a hard material. In terms of the plushy it being felt makes him super duper cuddly. I've seriously not wanna let him go. The black material you used to make the outside of his coat is so soft. Was that like an old sweater or something? Its really nice. You did such a wonderful job with this! My dad and grandmother were very impressed to.  I believe I mentioned on Facebook that I like how you made the plushy like you draw Matteo, which I thought was cool. You could have made him more like the MOC but you made your version of Matteo and that makes him more special to me. I think the Ooooooonly aspect of my MOC that I would have liked to have seen make it into a plushie form of him that isn't there is the saw blade brim of his hat. In my mind that's part of his signature look. That and the dragon mask is what sets Matteo apart from other plague doctors. I don't want you to think of this as a flaw though it absolutely isn't. Its just that those are my favorite things about the way Matteo looks. I love that  this now exists in the physical form of a plushie. I assume you had drawn this after making or at least starting the plushie? Did one kinda influence the other? How did you go about designing your version of Matteo? That's another aspect about him I love. I love how people can take liberties with him and really create their own version of him. I love being able to just hand him off to someone and go "here do your take on him" and seeing what people come back with. Some people are really stingy with their characters, not me though I love getting that whole other perspective on my own creation(MOC). Like everything you do your version of Matteo is adorable, cartoony, and fun. I really hope you keep doing what you do Sharlene because so many people love it.

Lastly I love the inclusion of the wires in his arms and legs and the beans in his butt. Those are very well thought out and practical aspects of the plushy. He really feels like a doll that was designed to be sitting down. Now I can sit him down on my shelf and bend his little stick legs over the edge like he's sitting there and maybe even cross his arms like in your drawing. Again thank you so so so SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO incredibly much for this baby *smother's you in kisses and hugs*. I luv it so very much.

Aw you're welcome Dave~ I'm still very glad that you love him so much!
Haha I would joke around that his mask was originally white!

At first I thought if I should just sew the mask but I rather not have any seams showing so needlefelting was the best choice for me. I tried sewing leather once and it was hard to push through the thick fabric. Dang man stained glass? Sounds like real complicated stuff there.
xP
Yep, it's from an old hoodie that I hadn't worn since high school. I really like the texture of it, and I thought Matteo looks pretty warm for winter~
Heh sorry about the hat part, perhaps the stitching in red sort of looks like a saw blade?

I made that picture of Matteo to see if you like his design first and then I started to put him together~ I wish I've done that way sooner!

I got the tattered design from you know vultures, eating dead bodies I guess? Like they rip the clothes to get to that rotting meat... haha.

Yeah that's a great thing about MOCs, people can just draw him it in any way that fits!

Those "beans" are actually rice so yeah don't get him wet! ;u; I need to buy more suitable material for that~

I always love a doll being able to hold a position, sure that means more work but also more fun.

You're welcome Dave! Take care of him!

You did a really good job with his mask. Your hard work with the needle felting payed off. I've heard leather sewing is hard. I've seen other people on here say that in their deviation descriptions.
Well If I did a full on cosplay of Matteo I'd want things to be mostly period correct. Stained glass is the only thing I can think of that would work to give him the emerald goggles. I guess that could be forgiven if it meant he could see better.

I see. He does indeed look like he won't be cold.
That's alright. Like I said, you made him how you draw him. I picture Matteo having this hat that's cloth, but hase that saw blade patter, but because its heavy cloth or leather, the little blades fray up and down. I think that'd give him a lot of character. Not everything is perfect about Matteo and I really like that. That's kinda the cool thing about Matteo, now there's all these different versions and they can all kinda influence each other. I've gone back since getting the sculpture and moved some colors around. Now I can look at the plushie and maybe rethink the way I color the MOC's arms You did a really good job with him Sharlene, you really need to keep at this because you're very good at it. Everyone loves the work you did for Matteo. Have you read the comments on my deviation of him? My followers, friends and family have all reacted very positively towards him. i really hope you keep at this sweetie.

Oh I see. Well I already liked the way you had drawn him previously. I just looked at Teo as you doing a more detailed version like you've done with your own characters. I actually quite like the tattered look because that's kinda how I imagine Matteo. Here he is this immortal and has lived many lives all over the world yet he dresses himself in rags practically because he's got a job to do and he focuses on that, not dressing nice or maintaining his personal appearance. Hehe he's kinda like his creator in that regard. To me Matteo is practically, dynamically shabby. He's got some things about him like his mask and hat which are "edgy" and different, yet his clothes are kinda ragged.

Oh okay. I didn't know that. I'm glad you told me. Alright I'll do my best to keep him away from liquids. I'll keep him on his shelf next to the sculpture at all times then.

Hehe yeah and that felted Cult mask was actually a prototype for Matteo!

Hm I never sewn any type of clothing except for dolls, I always get afraid if it'll fall apart when being worn xP

Yeah I'll make more dolls sometime! I really want to make Blight and James, and at least someone with a face for once.

*cough* Vern.

I did read the comments! They sound like they like him!

That sounds waaay better than my reason~ haha you think up more interesting and believable stuff than I can.

You don't need to worry about the bugs in the rice, I made several dolls with rice booty (Smould, Patches and Tank), and they're just fine.

Nothing really swarmed out of them haha.

I see.
That would be kinda scary. "Here baby I made you a sweater"
"Ummm my sweater fell apart in the wash FIX IT PWEEZE?"

That would suck.

Good, I'm glad. This should be a full time thing for you. You could start selling them on etsy and make yourself some monies. I think if you can do as good as you did on Matteo consistently then your dolls are good enough to be sold or you could take commissions.

Hehe, what was your reason?

Well that's good to know. I'll be careful not to sit him around my desk which might be wet from drink dribbles or spillage, but its good to know his butt won't attract any pests.
