What tablet did you get?
Have you considered using SAI? It's pretty easy to use.

Congrats, WELCOME TO THE DARK SIIIIIIIDE! jk.
But seriously, I hope you have a fun time with your tablet. It takes a while to adjust, then afterwards, it would feel like pen and paper.

Oh my god. I feel your pain...
When I first got my tablet, I was so used to drawing with a mouse... I HATED it. It sat in my closet for months. Sooner or later, I decided to give in another try, and just keep practicing. It takes a while to get used to, but it really is worth it. When you're sketching something, and the lines are super awesome looking... it's like "Wow. I would never be able to do this with a mouse."
Life changing, I say. >

Don't worry~! It takes time~! QuQ It will make life easier once you get used to it XD. And it also depends on the tablet too~
And if you draw in Paint Tool SAI, mess around with the smoothing/stabilizer. It'll help you too QuQ. But for now, just start sketching around until you get the gist of it~ XD

I think it depends on what kind of tablet you have, a bamboo will be easier to make smooth lines and such. But a generic brand with a very smooth surface will be super hard. You can always get manga studio where it makes the line nice and smooth for you.

it just takes practice, my line art improved dramatically since i got my tablet... just make sure to take your time and use many layers before you start the actual line art...

KayBC [2012-02-25 02:01:27 +0000 UTC]
to make a straight line, just make a line art layer instead of a regular one. It should be the layer button with a pen on it. Then go to the tool that creates straight lines~

That will help you a lot, looks like a pressure tablet. They take longer to adjust to then normal ones.

Herm, I know how you feel. ; o ; I felt like using a tablet would have been super easy but it turned out being terrible for me to get used to, I just suggest doodle, doodle, doodle until you get the feel for it~

don't worry, just like any other drawing tool it just take some practice geting used to.
I had a hard time when I got mine since I only knew how to draw in paint
since you are used to that and the line too
have something lose to work with like a tablet is gonna be a little challenging
just doodle lots and lots and experiment and you'll get he hang of it in no time 8)
you won't regret it don't worry
just keep at it

assuming you have sai, there is this option at the top that says "smoothing" if you change that setting to one of the S-insert number here it will slow the line down when you draw.
I think I drew with S-7 when I first started and eventually I got used to the feel of the tablet where I didn't really need that and I could move to S-1 and stuff.

Just keep practicing! Don't just try messing with the settings, not that won't help help, but try changing the way you hold the tablet itself.
Most people like to keep it flat on a desk or something, but I can't do that. I have to use it at an angle.

Flat on your lap? I have a desk and a desk chair, so I'll scoot in and put my knees up on the desk and the tablet in my lap.

Also try customizing your "Pen", right click, Options > from pressure you don't really see any difference but smoothing makes a huge difference in the ways you stroke the lines.
Try the different settings out, I use smoothing 7 for sketching and S-2 for line art.
Then at the bottom of the usual Tool settings you see a check box for "Advanced", try checking that and change the "Hardness" "Hard<->Soft" settings for different lines.
Just keep trying it out and eventually you will get your own comfortable settings.

It's hard to get used to when you've drawn with a mouse or any other media for a long time. I've had mine about a year now, I'm still not completely used to it.
You can do it! It just takes time.
