A note regarding 'Reductio" semiotics: it's perfectly reasonable to conclude that any and all stag-related symbology is a referent to Nikolai (you really wouldn't be 'wrong')- but I would submit that the fact that Sharon is able to successfully attain the status of being the/an "ideal male" figure in her society, is not insignificant. Stags are heavily coded as carrying 'masculine' denotaton, and in this metaphorically dense narrative, symbols are not subservient to perceptible reality in their import. Performance has an odd, liminal reality that is worth always, a bit of consideration.
