Well nintendo don't care about Metroid franchise because its not popular in Japan and they don't sell well either (compared to nintendos another series).
For example Metroid prime 2 is one of the lowest selling nintendo games in Japan of all time.
Japanese gamers are nintendos main target audience, nintendo always shows more love for their franchises what are more popular in Japan for example Mario, Pokémon, Kirby, Fire emblem and even xenoblade (did you know that nintendo and monolith soft are probably already working on a direct sequel to the Xenoblade X for NX?).
I'am not saying that Fire emblem and Xenoblade would be better selling franchises than Metroid because its not true, Metroid is a better selling franchise than FE and Xenoblade but because they're both much more popular franchises in Japan than Metroid is so that is the reason why nintendo shows more love for those franchises.
Also Super Metroid sold kinda bad on its time, it didn't even sell half from that what original F-Zero sold on SNES.

Super metroid sold very, where are you getting those numbers? Also, they still made several squeals like zero mission, fusion, and the prime trillogy, meaning it did well enough to warrent that
So, there really is no reason for them not to release a metroid remake or new game entirely.
Also ive not played xenoblade, but i certainly love fire emblem

Actually Super Metroid sold 1.42 million units world wide and that is kinda low sells compared to another big SNES titles. Also Super Metroid is kinda rare game if you try to find it from Ebay.

Sounds like me regarding Kid Icarus, who coincidentally will have its 30th anniversary later in the year too. If Nintendo actually acknowledges its and Metroid's 30th anniversaries, I'd be a bit satisfied... to make up for them actually ignoring it the years ago in favor of Zelda and such.
