There exists an oddity in the outer Tuvian Arm, or as those in it like to call it, the Outlying Arm. At the end of the Silver Spine Trade Route, one of the most important connections between the Outlying Arm and galactic core, lies the Merdonsese Free State. Up until the late 60's, the Merdonsese people were able to enjoy relative prosperity, as their nation was one of the most important of the Outlying Arm. Stability in the Merdonsese country meant stability in the Outlying Tuvian, as most goods had to go through the Merdonsese State. The Merdonsese were able to establish a limited empire even, at some points having the Freehall State, Union of Thelsi and Confederacy of Samet under their sphere of influence.

But, after the arrival of the four large Colonial nations in the Outlying Tuvian (UDS, FU, SRI, TC), the relative stability of the Merdonsese State was no longer. The country, mainly dependent on trade, saw it lose its role as a centre for trade, and combining with an economic collapse, the Merdonsese State erupted into a short-lived civil war (71-72 AME).

The Merdonsese Free State was established in the aftermath of the war, having lost its hegemony, its economic role and its prosperity. It's been 10 years since the end of the Civil War, and yet, the Merdonsese Free State hasn't been able to recover.
