Description true title: after the hysteria i put on the tv
or: i won't be coming in today, i'm not feeling well...

some have said that parts of this series have been very sad... i have a very dark sense of humor, mostly regarding sad or disturbing events of my life. I know it may seem odd to laugh at such things, but it's either that or cry... and frankly i have to get things done, i don't have time to cry all day. so even with the sadness, i'm laughing and i want you to laugh too.

for my final art project I've decided to do a book, using the comic format with frames of photos instead of drawings.
the comic will be a little random, illustrating my thoughts and events of my life.
heavily inspired by a softer world
whereas before i was working with my childhood photos (credit to my mum), the rest of the series will be produced using my own photography.

i've seen that form more times than i like to admit.

no locks on the bathroom doors, but there was mirrors

You're exposing yourself completely to the world; and I hope whoever marked this understood that completely and that it's obviously not an easy thing to do.

I didn't find any humour in this image alone; however I did see that you are incredibly brave to bare your soul through your art - and doing it beautifully by the way.

So amazingly talented. Its subtle, yet at the same time so glaringly obvious it almost hurts. Wow... that's about all I can say.

There is a fine line between laughing and crying

This one is really getting to me though, because it is bringing back a really strong memory...

From what I am feeling, It is really admirable of you to be able to do this

It helps the rest of us when someone like you has the courage to show us your life- the beautiful and the painful- it gives courage to others to accept what they have experienced.

so thank you, to remind us all we're aren't alone and it's ok to laugh and cry at the same time.

these are awesome.. i love the 'dark humor' to them although to me it's not dark as much as it images reality & real things people think.

Its true that most times the things we need to express the most are unexpressable.
This work (Ive yet to go explorin your gallery) speaks well enough for personal feelings, the processes involved in treatment, and the ignorance of the people that we expect to care for us.
I study psychology and ive been in hospital before, sometimes I find that all i can do is laff when they try their tricks on my saddened mind... but mostly its the places they keep me that entertain me he most... it really is extrememly humorous in that strange sort of way

you have my humour, i think.

this is the kind of thing that makes me flash a grin like the cheshire cat when i'm lying thinking about things in the middle of the night.

the little things that make the big things, you know?

I was in a place once where we where not aloud to wear are shoe because they had shoe strings. But they let us have sheets and blankets. I often wondered why they took the shoes because of that. I mean if a person wanted to take there life bad enuff they would find a way to do so.

This makes me laugh . . . at first I read the pictures, then the captions . . . it all works so well together. I know exactly what you mean--don't they realize how funny the situations are, now? I remember being asked (to determine any disorders) if I feel the need to constantly wash my hands, or rock in my chair . . . I cut the man off and said "no, I am not obsessive-compulsive. Next question, please." I think we are too educated for some of the institutions.

i think this is really deep and moving. i think it says a lot, and i get the humor in it. sometimes our greatest enemy is ourselves, and we're told inspirational things, but in the end we just have to face ourselves. funny that in a place that tries to make us get away from that, that they would be mirrors there.
keep up the dark humor love, its working well for ya.

I'm glad that you have the energy to laugh instead of cry. And that you are looking back. You have a lot of talent, and it is important that you can express your feelings though something like art and photography. Yay for you. This is a great piece...the little additions to the form seem like your thoughts and defense, like a whisper and kinda ignored by authority.

Hmm... that is so damn true... I had a week long stay at an institution.. and... well you could have snorted toothpaste, or hung yourself with the shower curtains. some girl hung herself with her thong.

So i got my panty privlages taken away because of her..

Nice !!
Are you going to sell your book once the final project is done !?

another title could have been ...
I saw it on MTV and I thought it was cool !

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ohitsmejulia In reply to Ensan [2004-05-29 05:39:25 +0000 UTC]

if i can get it printed at a reasonable price and size, probably!

and though that title is neat, it doesn't fit the situation. firstly it's canada, we don't get MTV, and secondly i had no illusions that it was cool...
but thank you very kindly for the suggestion!

Ensan In reply to ohitsmejulia [2004-05-29 08:20:49 +0000 UTC]

Let me know if you print the book !

Unfortunately even in Canada we get MTV ... satellite dish ...

I know you had no intention of making it cool ...
It was just silly sars-castic me ...

Take care

Really? now thats something. Youd think theyd know better, being who they are. Mirrors...I thought shrinks think that people whom hurt themselves hate themselves, so wouldnt they also think that mirrors would provoke them? Did that make any sense? its late.
I still find this series interestingI really like how its put together, and the dark 'humor'. this did make me laugh in my mind...

ohitsmejulia In reply to artisticlonging [2004-05-29 07:29:33 +0000 UTC]

i know! and absolutely, mirrors are more obvious just for that reason. it was very strange, and it was not tempered glass, it was regular glass... not that i used it, i just found it funny.
i'm happy you do too.
