Trilobite! It's a trilobite! And add the word "steampunk" to your keywords for more hits! Steampunkers like trilobites a LOT.

x_x Some kind of fossil???
Just about everyone who even looks at a paleontology book knows it's a trilobite. They are extremely common and popular, and they are very useful for correlating rocks. The ironic thing is that I drew that exact same species today (Dec 18, 2006) for my paleo lab!!!
Thanks for sharing!

You should see some of the Moroccan trilobites: they're absolutely gorgeous, and are utterly photogenic.

This page [link] features some real beauties, Psychopyge is a sight to see, in particular (its name means either "soul butt," or "butterfly butt" in Greek).

Some of them are huge. I always thought they were little critters.

The biggest one I know of is Terrataspis from New York: it's like, almost 3 feet across.
