I know the feeling. I have only been doing this for just under 2 years, and have had to learn as I go along. It's all trial and error and practice and frustration, and so often I finish with a piece, like what I see, post it or show it to a friend and then go "What the hell was I thinking? This sucks!" Usually the pieces I say that about are the ones people like best by the way. Funny how that works.
But the way I see it, the only way I am going to improve is to keep trying, learn from the mistakes and experiment with new techniques, new ideas and not give up.
Granted I may never be a great talent, and much of what I may never be seen by more then a handful of people (usually literally), but then again I don't do this because I care about being perfect, making money, getting praise or for any other reason then because I enjoy it.

I actually wanted to create the feeling of "going under"...so I put the hand on the bottom to signify pulling her down while the hand above offers no help to pull her back up - does that make sense? LOL
