Description Created in honor of my good friend Lola Kelly, who lost her battle to breast cancer three years ago this past Christmas.
The holiday season was so hectic...I feel I didn't wish her Merry Christmas. So I created this for her.
We worked in a wine shop together. She was like a second mom. But one of those rockin, liberal ones
We'd go to the bar after work and she'd pick up guys for me...even when I told her not to
She had the entire grocery store (where our shop was) convinced we were lesbian lovers.
It makes me smile to remember her. I have her name tattooed on my back.
She's probably going to give me shit for that when we meet again I can already hear her laughing at me.
She used to sign her Christmas card to me "To Madonna. Love the Old Drew."
We loved Madonna and Drew Barrymore she loved Drew more. I loved Madonna more .
Christmas was VERY important to her. So were the Beatles.
So she had us listen to Obla-Di-Obla-Da right smack in the middle of her funeral.
And then SING Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas at the end of the service, knowing full well her friends can't sing.
We all ended up in happy tears.

To the gal who danced around the shop with a broom singing Jesus Loves Me.
To the gal who chatted up the suits while I hid in the bar's bathroom.
To the gal who made work a fun place to be (even when barking orders )
To the gal who carried my drunken ass home more times than I care to count.
To the gal who bravely fought her cancer for four solid years, never once complaining.
To the gal who loved Christmas and the Beatles.
I remember you. I love you. I miss you.
Sorry your card is late. I'm an ass.

To Old Drew.
Love Madonna.

awe, you're going to make me cry .
I think that your personality alone would be a beautiful reminder to ANY of your friends on how important they are (and how important YOU are).
Thanks very much for your kind words

It's so very touching. I Can't tell you in words how much it does touch me. I hope, that if my best friend came to die before me, that I can't do something the quarter as beautiful, honest and true to her. You have a great sensivity. This tribute must make very happy!

Bless you. That is a very sweet gesture. I'm sure she's looking down on you and smiling, she will appreciate this gesture. Breast cancer is a very serous thing and all women should be careful. My Mum has had several scares.

oh I could not agree more.
EVERY woman should get checked. Regardless of medical history.
The earlier it's detected, the better your chances of winning the battle.

I was lucky too
we had so many laughs together, crying while creating this just made me laugh at the same time.
I could literally picture her beside me going "oh STOP! such a spaz!!"
I've never had a bigger age gap with a friend.
But I have never loved a friend the same way I did her....I admired her. How she lived her life .
Thank you for reading my little blurb .

That is really the only way to heal when you've lost a love one.

The whole thing was just so Lola it was unreal. She even had one of our co-workers get up with his guitar and sing Tears In Heaven. That totally destroyed anyone who wasn't already crying...she was a popular gal. Just so upbeat and fun. The world was a better place when she was in it.

I've thought of doing tears in heavan at a couple funerals, but i know it would have just ended me. i wouldn't be able to play or sing at all...

She really DOES sound like one hell of a person though.

Lucky to have a friend like you, though.

oibyrd In reply to Static-Image [2006-01-13 16:07:51 +0000 UTC]

yeah Tears in Heaven is a mistyeyed song all on it's own.
I am happy to have friends like her. And YOU, the ones who inspire me and encourage me to keep ploughing through life with a smile

Better late that never you know!

after her death I made a point to say I love you whenever I said goodbye to friends.
You never know when they suddenly won't be around..and I don't want to regret not telling them how much they mean to me, yknow?

thank you for sharing the emotion with me on this one. It means a lot .

I think you almost made me cry. I say I love you to all my friends that matter, its important.

Thanks for this, I think I will do a chrismas card for My great grandad Charlie who died about 3 years ago now. And one for My partners grandad who died just a couple of months ago from cancer.
