Description Created in honor of my good friend Lola Kelly, who lost her battle to breast cancer three years ago this past Christmas.
The holiday season was so hectic...I feel I didn't wish her Merry Christmas. So I created this for her.
We worked in a wine shop together. She was like a second mom. But one of those rockin, liberal ones
We'd go to the bar after work and she'd pick up guys for me...even when I told her not to
She had the entire grocery store (where our shop was) convinced we were lesbian lovers.
It makes me smile to remember her. I have her name tattooed on my back.
She's probably going to give me shit for that when we meet again I can already hear her laughing at me.
She used to sign her Christmas card to me "To Madonna. Love the Old Drew."
We loved Madonna and Drew Barrymore she loved Drew more. I loved Madonna more .
Christmas was VERY important to her. So were the Beatles.
So she had us listen to Obla-Di-Obla-Da right smack in the middle of her funeral.
And then SING Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas at the end of the service, knowing full well her friends can't sing.
We all ended up in happy tears.

To the gal who danced around the shop with a broom singing Jesus Loves Me.
To the gal who chatted up the suits while I hid in the bar's bathroom.
To the gal who made work a fun place to be (even when barking orders )
To the gal who carried my drunken ass home more times than I care to count.
To the gal who bravely fought her cancer for four solid years, never once complaining.
To the gal who loved Christmas and the Beatles.
I remember you. I love you. I miss you.
Sorry your card is late. I'm an ass.

To Old Drew.
Love Madonna.

People like you and Lola are what make life worth living. Without that spark, there is nothing at all. You were lucky to have shared it with her. Hugs, Melissa

I have no doubt that she's smiling down on you, a smile bright enough to light your Christmas tree. What a touching tribute to a wonderful friend.

For goodness sake, Woman, you went and made me cry!

I am missing someone too although I won't allow myself to admit it. Your tribute touched me for that reason as well.

She sounds like a wonderful woman and a sweet person.
And you are also one for honoring her like this.

Obla-Di-Obla-Da is one of my favorite Beatles tunes.
That and When I'm 64 or whatever the title.

I think that I'll scare the hell out of my family and have them play some White Zombie at my funeral.

Anyone that can look at this image and read your remarks with dry eyes has a heart of stone. No... Ice. A heart of ice. With stones inside. This is beautiful. I'm so touched that I'm all misty! I'm sorry for your friend's loss. Words can't express...

This reminds me of my best friend...
The one I need to go and call RIGHT NOW!

Thank you for sharing with me. You have an amazing soul!

I've learned after her death to not take any friend or family member for granted.
We never know when their time is up...or when ours is.

The feeling of not saying goodbye is worse than the slight embarrasment of telling friends how fucking amazing they are. I never got my goodbye to Lola...it haunts me.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

FantasyStock In reply to oibyrd [2006-02-23 06:14:10 +0000 UTC]

And yet... You keep saying good-bye. Don't you think that maybe she's heard you yet?

Oh, I learned, too, the hard way with my dad. He was trying to say goodbye, and I wasn't hearing it. I was 17, and all I heard was him getting uncommonly sentimental. I just thought he was being weird. But he was saying goodbye without using that word, and I missed my chance to say something important back to him. When he died, I used to call his phone and let it ring and ring... until the operator would cut it off, then I'd call back, etc. I so desperately wanted to tell him... I dunno... something meaningful. I kept calling, day after day until his phone was finally disconnected about a month or two later.

So anyway, I'm guessing by now that he got my intentions... Wherever he is. Which makes me think that maybe Lola has heard every one of your goodbyes all this time... Deep down even into your flesh, she hears your every intention. Well, I'm agnostic... But there's that hope, yes?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

oibyrd In reply to FantasyStock [2006-02-23 10:04:22 +0000 UTC]

Oh absolutely.
I know she hears them. I've actually had conversations with her in my head when I'm alone in the house lol...
I'm weird like that. There are a number of people who were very important to me...that all passed away within a two to three year period. ... I talk to all of them. Or have at one point or another.

It's that selfish need to want to get one last hug in...etcetc...you know how that feels.
the telephone calls to your dad got me all teary-eyed... we're even

Alright. No more sappy-ness. Let's go find some stock for Sandi to play with....*skips off into your gallery*!
