Got an idea this morning. What if Henry and Gordon have known each other since their testing days on the GNR/LNER and MR/LMS? Henry was made from rejected A0 plans anyway. So here's the quick little blurb of a story I came up with:

One morning in 1922, Gordon the Big Engine, was being tested. His manager wanted to see how well he could pull coaches, and had arranged for him to pull an express train from Doncaster to London. The test was of course, successful with Gordon arriving on time. While he idled in the station, he heard another whistle. An engine similar to him slowly pulled up on the track next to him, wheezing and coughing. Gordon was both confused and concerned. "I didn't think they'd finished building more of my kind yet- I'm just the prototype. Are you alright, chap?"

The engine coughed. "I'll be fine. It's just that my firebox is very small and this coal is spoiling my fire. I don't recall seeing you around either. What's your name, and where did you come from?"

"I'm Gordon, I'm an experimental engine- the first of my kind- the A1's. Being the prototype, they call me the A0. I'm quite strong and capable of hauling heavy trucks and coaches. I'm from Doncaster.

"Ohh, well that explains things." coughed the engine. "My name is Henry. I'm from the workshops at Derby works in the midlands. They said I was meant to be an A0 as well, but with some more C1 influence. They built me from rejected plans stolen from Doncaster, and now look at me. I'm a wreck. I'm due to be sold off at auction in a few days' time. I'll likely end up being sold for scrap." Henry moaned.

"Don't lose hope, chap. I'm not sure how much longer I'm to last either, but I'm sure they can do something to improve your health in the meantime. Maybe what you need is have a bigger boiler and firebox. Or maybe ask them to supply you with a different kind of coal. That might improve your health. Who knows? You might get bought by a railway that really needs an engine."

Henry and Gordon both ended up being sold to the NWR, which was desperately looking to purchase stock and engines. Gordon was sold straight from Doncaster, papers and all. Henry's sale was much more shady. He was offered at auction as a GCR C1 and purchased by an unknown buyer. Still proving to be a poor steamer, the buyer himself needed to get rid of Henry and sold him for cheap to Sir Topham the First for a low price.
