She's a hermaphrodite in the same way that Dumbledore is gay - if you're meaning this. It's not in the narrative explicitly...and fan's theories are only fan's theories.

Actually she IS a hermaphrodite.
"According to director Yoko, in Grimoire Nier , Kainé's gestalt was not originally intersex. She was a normal female with a fiancé, but her replicant was born as intersex due to an error in the long-running replicant system."
After a 1000 years errors happen.
And that link to the Wikia, read the first story ("And then there were none"). That one details how the Grimoire were created. Story is even better/creepier if read in Liam O'Briens voice.

Honestly, I never really believed she was, but I also know large swathes of the fans think she is so the question not coming up was surprising. Was also curious which side of the fence the artist was on.

from what I've played so far Automata is breathtakingly amazing. Just like the first NieR. The music, characters, scenery the whole thing. I definitely say its worth it

Looks great as always Olia! The fabric of her dress is amazingly well done, it looks beautiful and almost photo-realistic. The details are also nice, the frills on her panties are a sign you put some incredible time and effort into this. Lastly, I love the pose you gave her; it's sensual and enticing but not in an exaggerated or absurd way that takes you out of it by wondering what's wrong with her spine, haha. Overall I love this piece and it makes me want to find the old Nier games to see more of this character

I typically love your art style, but I don't think this does Kainé justice. Can't figure out what it is. Maybe the face. Or perhaps the wind-blown effect on her outfit makes the perspective look weird. Maybe a mixture of both.
