Description
*gasp* Not a wallpaper?! lol. This is a sketch I did to try and visualize a gown of Margaret Hale's that she wears to the Thornton's dinner party in Elizabeth Gaskell's novel North & South. The film changed the color of her gown from white to green, and eliminated her jewelry almost entirely, so I wanted to see what she might have looked like as envisioned by EG.
Drawn in pencil with the description in mind
Oh, and this is one of my few attempts at actually coloring something using the computer and not my colored pencils...so I apologize for the lack of skill!! I also put a paper texture over this, too.
The quotes are from Chapter 20 of the book, but the smilies are mine because I simply could not resist.
"Margaret's black hair was too thick to be plaited; it needed rather to be twisted round and round, and have its fine silkiness compressed into massive coils, that encircled her head like acrown, and then were gathered into a large spiral knot behind. She kept its weight together by two large coral pins, like small arrows for length. Her white silk sleeves were looped up with strings of the same material, and on her neck, just below the base of her curved and milk-white throat, there lay heavy coral beads."
..."He [Mr. Thornton] shook hands with Margaret.

I adore North and South, and even though I like the adaptation I did miss her white dress. I think you drew it perfectly.

Beautiful, beautiful rendition of Margaret's dress from the novel. I also love the quote and the emoticons, that cracked me up.

This is lovely and its how I imagine Margaret to look from the book! I was dissapointed that in the BBC adaptation Maragarets hair wasnt black, which is something that always stood our for me in North and South!

I didn't mind the hair color (it was dark enough to be "close"), so much as not getting the white dress with coral beads.

heheh I love reading that quote with the smilies, it really adds something, don't you think? lol.
I love this picture, her dress in particular has such life, I'm saving it partly because of the folds!

I didn't know you drew at all! And That's really beautiful! It seems that anything, any art you do is wonderful, isn't it?
I loved this one. She's very beautiful, indeed. You really knew how to draw her as it was described on the book! Her face is so sweet, I liked the eyes very much. Her hair is awesome too, you did it exactly how I imagined when I read the quote! I loved the gloves, and the dress is just incridble! Really, wonderful! The details are amazing, very elegant, indeed! Really, that's very beautiful! I want to see more drawings of yours (and wallpapers too, of course! )
I loved the smilies there, they are hilarious and it really matches with the text! The colors are beautiful too, they gave life to the character! X3 I wanted to speak more English, then I could express myself better, but I hope a favorite can do it!

More important than that, I wish I had more time to see my DA... >_< I have so many tests and homeworks at school Those are times when we wish to have a robot that would go to school instead of ourselves! I'd love it so much

LOL, I used to wish for a clone of myself, or a twin, who would do all my schoolwork. But then that wouldn't make us very smart, I'm afraid!

Yes! I think that's better People would suspect if they saw a robot going to school instead of me LOL XD If we only had a clone machine.
Yes, unfortunately that's true. We need to do schoolwork. If we only were born knowing everything hehe.

This is really a beautiful piece. Simple yet very charming and lively. Excellent choice of colors. I think for an early attempt at digital color you've done very well for yourself. I look forward to seeing more. = )

Thank you! Actually though the choice of colors isn't mine, because Gaskell says "white" and coral beads.
