Thanks for that.  However my long term aim is to get away from photorealism and develop a more painterly style.  I think there's something in my nature that keeps leading me to be precise and accurate.  I think I should at least stop using the smudge tool and leave the brush strokes showing.

I too am trying to do the same, but I too gravitate to symmetry and to photorealism, but I don't seem to succeed at either on a regular basis!  
I guess what I create will inform me of my style.
