The Robert Englund "Freddy Krueger", or the other guy/REMAKE – which, in all honesty, I just couldn't get into (Robert Englund MADE "Freddy Krueger" into a Household Name… to have someone else, in the role, is very, VERY INSULTING!)
Robert Englund's Freddy may have been PSYCHOTIC, but, he (also) brought FLAIR – and, HUMOR – to his Tounge-In-Cheeck performances…
THAT… is how Freddy, Jason, and Michael managed to have such the CULT FOLLOWING, over the DECADES: By, NOT taking themselves TOO SERIOUSLY!
I'll put it, to you, another way…
I grew up, listening to Mark Hamill's performance (as the JOKER), on BATMAN: The Animated Series and, the ENTIRE TIME, I thought (to myself) "No One Could Ever TOP his performance… it was SPOT ON!"
I saw Heath Ledger's performance, in The DARK KNIGHT, and – quite honestly – I was disappointed (not in his performance, but, rather, in the… Unnecessary Reformatting that occurred, in the characters…)
HAUNTING is the proper adjective, for describing The DARK KNIGHT – in a VERY BAD WAY – which puts Heath's SUICIDE into a VERY dark perspective! (Hell, the music, alone, would've been enough, to drive me over the Edge, as well!)
TO DATE: I can count the Number of Times, that I've SEEN The DARK KNIGHT, ON ONE HAND!
If I want to watch the JOKER, I'll plug-in BATMAN: The Animated Series, because…
When it comes, to The DARK KNIGHT TRILOGY, they ROYALLY SCREWED-UP The DARK KNIGHT, for me!
(I wouldn't be surprised, one bit, if that's how Heath felt about it, as well!)

“Behind the Mask” is a classic. It’s set in a world where Freddy-type serial killers are celebrities. Tasty blonde film student Taylor Gentry (played by tasty blonde actress Angela Goethals) is making a documentary about an aspiring serial killer: how he trains, how he selects his victims, how he sets up a house so that it’s impossible to escape, and so on. Robert Englund plays the Donald Pleasence role as a psychiatrist who’s trying to stop the killer. It’s awesome on every level.
