Thank you! I loved parakeets til I got him. Just kidding, just because he hates me doesn't mean I hate him.

Same here. Sly feared me since the day I got him, and then last year I got a white parakeet, and she was very sweet for awhile, but then I put the two together and they both will do anything to stay away from me. D:

My keets love flying around my room. I had his wings clipped when I took him outside so I had nothing to worry about. How many parakeets do you have? Any other birds?
I have two cockatiels, two parakeets, a green cheek cinnamon conure, my mom has a senegal parrot and an african grey, and my boyfriend's mom has two zebra finches. Can't get enough birds.

I just have two keets. When I first bought my keets, they already were pre-clipped. Now, their wings grew back fully and fly around in my room. I love them so much! I'll upload pics soon so you can see them!

Very cute bird! Does he ever try to fly away?
Mine is happy indoors, but out of the cage.

Nah, he's a really good bird. Very human shy, unfortunately. He's in love with my cockatiel so wherever it goes, he follows. I keep all of my birds' cages open in my room so they have a bit of freedom.

Tee hee. My parakeet is scared to go outside of his cage but one time, he opened the door himself and went looking for me in my room. I freaked out that day because I thought he had gone missing.

Um....what is the room with your bird cages like? Is it hard to clean up the messes they leave behind?

Awww.. well I'm glad he was okay

I had the birds in my room with me, and now I have them in the kitchen. It's easy to clean up after them as long as you do it day after day.

Aw, that's cute. My budgies don't like to fly around inside, let along outside.

I've been getting his wings clipped for the longest time because he has always been so afraid of me. I figured the worst thing would be to let him be able to fly away from me whenever I tried to confront him. Now I let his wings grow out and he loves to explore the house with my cockatiel. Unfortunately, he is still extremely afraid of me.

Yeh, I want to get my budgies wings clipped, but my mum thinks it's mean. I tried to tell her that it's better 'cause we can let them explore the house without smacking into walls and stuff, but she won't listen to me TT^TT
I don't think our budgies will ever like us

I know this post is over a year old, but I wanted to help out anyway...

Wing clipping is very cruel. Its equivalent to de-clawing a cat. It inhibiting natural abilities. Its like someone cutting off your hands because they don't want you touching stuff. My birds came to me with clipped wings and they are ever grateful that I let them grow back. They trust me more.

I have a skittish budgie (his name is Hercules) and he hates hands, but we developed an understanding. I trained him (with millet and praise) to sit on my finger and come when he's called. It takes a while for them to trust you, but it works.

Herkie flies around and occasionally bonks himself, but he's learning to avoid that and use his claws to grab on to things.

To get your bird used to you here are some tips:

First get some millet spray and talk softly to them and offer it and let them eat. DON'T try to touch them. Do this until they look happy to see you and eat from you with no problem. Now, take some millet and hold it a bit farther away and let them come to you. Keep talking to them softly and lots of praise (soft) when they come. Keep going farther and farther.

Then, put the millet in your hand a little distance and let them sit and eat on your hand. After this you can start slowly training them how to sit on your finger/a stick and maybe they will want to play with you.

There are some budgies that like to watch people and not play with them. Your bird may be one of them. Just be patient.

I hope this helps.

I guess I was really lucky with my lil budgie Toki. From the day we got her as a baby, she flew out of a little box into a wall and I went to pick her up.
She has always been so amazingly tame. She normally hides under my hair and nibbles my ear. She even lets me grab hold of her whole body!
Shes more like a baby then a pet!

Well, I've noticed this with my budgie. If you let them have wings for a good amount of time and then clip them, they go into deep depression. It was really sad. He would do absolutely nothing all day but sit in a corner and sleep. Same thing happened with my cockatiel, actually. I clipped his so my budgie wouldn't have to see him be able to fly. It was a depressing wreck.

Both of them were horrible at flying at first, and we also lately bought an African Grey who is also horrible at flying so far, but given some time and practice, it's amazing how much they improve.
