Here are my own Sodor headcanon versions of Henry, Gordon, Shaw (98462), Snipe (87546) and Thompson The First Red Engine.

The Fat Controller bought five experimental GNR A0 Pacifics for the North Western Railway.

Henry - Henry arrived first as a normal A0 and was given NWR Green with red lining plus a gold dome. He was a very poor runner because his tubes and firebox kept on failing him. To cheer him up after being shut in the tunnel, the Fat Controller had him painted NWR Blue with Red lining but was constantly mistaken for Gordon. To fix this issue, Henry had his lining painted yellow to make him and Gordon somewhat different. After the kipper incident occurred in 1939, the Fat Controller sent Henry to the Croven's Gate Works for a rebuild/overhaul. Henry was rebuilt with a sturdier cab, a front sand dome, his pony wheels removed and a Belpair firebox. he even wanted to be painted Green again but kept the yellow lining which he didn't mind. (Admittedly, I was a bit inspired by the All Engines Go design for Henry, but that doesn't mean I'm a fan of the reboot.)

Gordon - Gordon arrived with two other A0 Pacifics and was soon painted in NWR Blue with red lining. Gordon had a real distain for goods work and insisted to be titled a an "Express Only" engine. He reached a speed record for 97mph, which was later beaten by Flying Scotsman at 100mph and Mallard at 125mph. After this record breaking, Gordon was too puffed up in his smokebox and damaged his buffers when crashing through the station wall at Kirk Ronan. He later had his round buffers replaced and returned from the works with sturdy rectangle buffers.

Shaw & Snipe - These two brothers arrived on the island with Gordon and wore the LNER Apple Green livery. The both refused to be repainted into Sodor colors. The two were really rough with trucks and bullied Edward continually to the point which the old engine was seen by crews emotionally breaking down every night. This news was reported to the Fat Controller and as punishment, Shaw and Sniper were both repainted in NWR Mix-Traffic Black and humiliated. The two engines are still on Sodor commonly seen double heading long goods trains although the two seem quieter and did they're work without fuss.

Thompson - Thompson was the last to arrive and was named after Edward Thompson who assisted with Sir Nigel Greasley in his design. He arrived the day after Gordon's, Shaw's and Snipe's arrival and was then painted in NWR Red with yellow lining and a black dome. He had some modifications such as a taller funnel and a 4-6-0 wheel configuration. To be blunt, Thompson was useless at first. He was lazy and refused to work being seen sleeping at Tidmouth while the others worked around him. The Fat Controller sent Henry to double head with him on a fast goods run which angered Thompson immensely. He complained the entire trip and later Henry gave Thompson stern words about how important it is it be useful. Thompson did take these words to heart and from then on decided to prove himself to the North Western how much of a big help the is to the railway network.
