This isn't exactly a scene in the book, but what I kind of believe what's going on behind the scenes through Talons of Power, and Darkness of Dragons.
Essentially Winter is being manipulated by Darkstalker, as I (and Qibli) can tell he's acting... off.Β
It's most likely to keep him from protesting against Darkstalker's want to rule the NightWing Kingdom (and the rest of Pyrrhia)Β
I think DS at first wanted to just kill him, but that would ruin his look as a "Good guy that hasn't done anything wrong" (minus yknow killing his parent)
so p much he just shut winter up

It really agitates me how Darkstalker is-
He thinks other dragons should want what he wants them to be, and he thinks that he's the one who gets decide what happens to other dragons. I am sooo glad Anemone woke up about that- that speech she did near the end was 100% accurate. You know, before Darkstalker forced her to shut up.

the colour 'layer' on his eyes is probably my favourite part--I look at Winter's eye and the whole atmosphere of the picture changes.
I also like the expression on him, like his pompous IceWing persona is still there even as Darkstalker throttles his mind.
this picture has an overall great and tense/scary feel in my opinion.

Exactly! Winter was this angry tribe-ist dragon who absolutely despised Darkstalker after the whole Foeslayer thing, and then suddenly he turns into this calm, mellow guy who likes the guy that stole the Icewing's animus powers. It's so weird.

originally they were going to be a bright, bright red, but i thought the darker colour would be eerier, but also blend into the back ground (like how most notice that winter is acting strange/different.)

Since Winter is under Darkstalkers' like me spell (that is what I'm calling it) Darkstalker has no reason to kill him since winter isn't a threat. However if Winter goes to the Nightwings Kindom he might, because Darkstalker never reversed the "any Icewing that enters the kingdom dies" spell.
