Description
115 million years ago in the Aptian of the early Cretaceous period at what will become the Ferruginous Sands at Shanklin, Isle of Wight in England, a dead Palaeospinax, a kind of extinct shark, has washed ashore and the smell of blood has attracted scavengers. A "Vectaerovenator inopinatus", a 4-meter long theropod dinosaur, has arrived to claim ot as his. He spreads out his feathered arms to make himself look bigger and intimidate any other scavengers that may want to fight it for this meal."Vectaerovenator" is the proposed name of a tetanuran theropod dinosaur found on the Isle of Wight that lived in the early Cretaceous. Its remains were found in 2019 and was announced recently in a press release under that name, but since a paper containing its description has not yet been published, this name is currently unofficial and they could damn well call it something else later if they want. Its remains are very fragmentary and not much is known of it, but they were found in a marine formation so perhaps it lived along the shoreline, scavenging things that wash ashore.
Palaeospinax is a shark genus that has many species from the Triassic to the Eocene assigned to it, but it is still dubious since the type specimen of the type species, P. priscus, kinda freaking sucks for identification and this genus is quite much a wastebasket taxon. The shark drawn here is based off teeth found in the Ferruginous Sands assigned to Synechodus tenuis, but apparently Synechodus is now deemed a synonym of Palaeospinax. And apparently S. tenuis was lumped into a different species of Synechodus before it was lumped into Palaeospinax and now I'm not sure what this species is called, please tell me in the comments if you know.
And yes, the title (and whole picture in general) is a reference to the You Just Got Vectored meme. That's why you are seeing a T-posing dinosaur with those colors, and the feathers to match the cape thing. Also, first "Vectaerovenator" on DA! (Finally, I am the first to draw a named non-avian dinosaur on this site).
Edit on 10th September 2020: Vectaerovenator has now been officially described and that is its official name now.
