Description
I'm surprised I'm on time without the use of the TARDIS but as you might remember today is the 5th of November and it's... sn0otchie 's birthday!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY!Bernard was not as hard to draw as I expected but drawing Twelve for the first time was quite a challenge (a fun challenge but still)! Granted, I'm used to drawing Quinton but compared to Quinton Twelve has shorter hair, classier clothes and isn't quadriplegic. So this was a bit weird but really fun. Seriously, if I ever run out of my own stories (I hope that doesn't happen but still) I'll just sit there drawing weird British crossovers.
Anyway, if you like all things British you should go watch sn0otchie and if you don't you should still go watch her because in one word, she is BRILLIANT!

Hi there
This one has really caught my eye. It's always that bit more interesting when you take a "setting" as well known as this but use it as a platform for something a bit beyond the obvious. I would like to guess how much Doctor Who art is on DA, but I don't imagine there's much like this.
I was sorting through a few old pen drives recently and found the photos a friend took when they went to the Dr Who 50th show at the National Media Museum in Bradford. I found a great photo of a 1960s Cyberman, and hey, one of my paintings was nearby.
Wish I'd known about your work at that time as I think the museum would have loved something in your line with a bit of Doctor Who history attached to it.
Anyway, this is a lot of fun, and very nicely done.

Hello and thank you!!
To be fair I see a lot of interesting takes on Doctor Who here on DA but they are easy to miss in the amount of usual carefully redrawn posters. I put nods to the show in my personal work sometimes, it's sort of fascinating to imagine what it must have felt like growing up with it (one of the reasons I really enjoy your DW pieces). I discovered it pretty late so I never got to re-examine it over the years as it usually happens with things we love since childhood but I can still imagine what it is/was like for my characters.
And ooh, your painting was at a Doctor Who show, that's great! I think the 50th anniversary had a nice vibe, I really enjoyed it though all I did was watching the special in a cinema and later watching some videos about it all on youtube.

The doctor's much angrier these days. Makes it much better. You've managed to capture that bitter irritation born of immortality. Awesome.

Thank you! Yeah, I love the new Doctor too! I never had anything against Eleven but now that he's gone I see how much I missed that anger Nine and Ten had. I like grumpy angry characters, I'm a bit like that myself I guess.

You have a very distinctive style. Your faces are really great - so much fun to look at and I love the Doctor's 'snarly' face here.
I really like your use of coloiur - using orange and purple in the tardis walls = brilliant! Similarly great colours in the skin too. Your colours are so vibrant - do you digitally enhance it on
I always imagine Bernard to have darker hair - maybe the highlights in his hair could be a little darker to bring that out? Also, maybe the Doctor's shoes are a little too rounded but that might have been intentional. These are just a couple of things I noticed. Hope they're helpful!

Woah, that's a thoughtful comment! I'm going to have to return the favour (especially since your original story looks promising)!
I do tweak colours digitally but I can't say they end up very different from the how the picture looks irl. I find that most scanners make colours either bleak or inaccurate so I usually get a bleak-ish scan and tweak it in Photoshop. But I use Copic markers and Derwent pencils (mostly watercolour and Coloursoft though I have a tin of Intense sitting around) and in some cases coloured paper so that makes pictures initially bright.
Yeah, I'm not sure about Bernard's hair either - it seems to look different in different light so it was hard to guess! Though to be fair none of us know or will ever know how Bernard looks when he's clean, considering his ideas about personal hygiene.
Anyway, thank you, it's definitely appreciated!

Thanks so much, Oly-RRR!
I remember that used to happen back when I used to colour traditionally. I remember I had a picture of a woman in a blue dress done in markers and when I scanned it came out green.
When I do colour traditionally I always used soft watercolour pencils. I love having a lot of control and be able to detail well with them!

You're welcome! You can just call me Oly (the actual name is Olga but I tend to go by Oly online).
Yesss, soft pencils are the best! Though when it comes to graphite pencils I tend to sketch with really hard pencils, normally something around 2H or 3H because I like lines to be light and not smudgy.

*Salutes* Hello Oly,
I haven't got much experience with different pencil hardnesses. I have used different lead thicknesses at times though.

If I remember correctly I used soft pencils up to 6B when it came to rendered graphite pictures that didn't have to be inked but I don't like it now. As for lead thickness I generally use regular wooden pencils (I think they generally come in two lead thicknesses? I know some of my pencils don't fit in some pencil sharpeners) but I used mechanical pencils before, sometimes I think that maybe I should start keeping a couple of those around just in case!

I always use mechanical pencils. I keep 3 lead thicknesses around. 0.5 being the regular thickness. 0.3 being thin and so for details etc and then I have thicker one (maybe 0.8 or 0.9?)

Ahhh. I like being able to change thickness within the same pencil, like by sharpening it or tilting it when drawing but to each their own and everything. I keep meaning to pick up a mechanical pencil for variety's sake but keep forgetting.

I’m about to go to work and I’m fucking crying here, with actual fucking tears. You’re all kinds of amazing, and so is your art, and so is this picture in particular! BEST CROSSOVER EVER. Thank you, thank you, thank you! God, I’m so soppy, it’s pathetic.
PS. Gotta print it out and put it up on my wall ASAP. I’ll make it my phone wallpaper for now so that I can peek at it during classes.
PSS. Thanks again! You’re a fucking star!

D'aww, I'm so glad you like it! Thank you!! I thought that I had to draw them for a while but I always thought of it in connection with you so this was perfect for the occasion!
I'll mail you the original when I finally post that Cop Story book! I keep meaning to do it but since I have to post several books (and some art) it turned into this epic operation that I keep putting off because it looks like spending several hours at the post office and so I wait till I catch a break. Though it shows me that trying to start any business with books is a bad idea, I'm struggling to post a few copies for friends, I dread to think how stressful it'd be to handle like 200 copies that people paid for, nah, not for me (at least at this point)... I guess if I don't do it in the next week or two I'll have to wait till January, you know what the postal service will be like in December...
And I finally watched In The Forest of the Night and now I can't decide if I want to start on the finale or hold it till the weekend and watch IT ALL... I'll probably give up and watch it mid-week!

OMG! I can have the original? Are you sure??
And I’ve actually been wondering about the Cop Story books. But I couldn’t think of a way to mention them without coming across as all pushy and entitled. Also, knowing how busy you’ve been... And if your post offices are anything like ours I can understand why you’re putting the whole thing off.

Totally - I love the idea of my picture being somewhere where it's enjoyed and not stuck in one of my folders!
No worries, it's totally okay to poke me about these things - if I said I'd do something I am going to do it but chances are something is stopping me at the moment. Anyway, it is going to happen eventually!
And yeah, post offices are dumb - one time they were telling me it's forbidden to send correspondence of any kind (as in anything written) together with other objects and the other time I spent an hour queueing to find out they don't have the particular stamps needed for packages. Not to mention that there are always multiple ways to send something and you never know the right compromise between cheap and safe and I don't exactly trust postal workers to help there.

Me too, his standup (and Black Books) certainly cheered me up on more than one crappy day by now! And thank you!
Seriously now that Peter Capaldi is the Doctor it's hard for me to imagine any future candidate for the role but I have a whole list of people I want to see as companions. Mat Frazer is somewhere in the top three!

I would really, really, really like it if Paterson Joseph was the Doctor at some point. assets.whatsontv.co.uk/whatson…
There was, at one point, a rumour that he might be, but then he wasn't... mm. I've never been able to quite shake the idea of how awesome it would be, though. Not only is he gorgeous, but he has this amazing baritone voice... ah! Be still my heart. <3 He'd be the hottest doctor evar.
(I may have had a crazy crush on him ever since he played the Marquis de Carabas in the BBC's 90s TV adaptation of Neverwhere. >_> )

I don't think I seen him in action so it's hard to form an opinion, I notice I'm crap at figuring out which actors I find appealing until I see them acting. I'll take a look at his filmography! Chance are he's been in some crime drama I've seen or plan to see.
I'm generally happy with whoever they choose for the Doctor but I'm rarely happy with companions. The only one I REALLY liked was Donna and Clara is growing on me now that she has some kind of personality besides being an Impossible Girl but I want to see quirkier companions. I mean I know that it's basically a character the average audience is supposed to relate to but that's precisely why I don't relate to most companions.
I still need to watch the latest episode, I'm sitting on the file and can't decide if I want to watch it now or wait till next weekend and get through the whole finale in one go. I used to be so scared of Cybermen during the RTD era but I don't think Moffat uses them well enough, they became just another type of monsters rather than the terrifying concept of humans that aren't human any more. Handles was adorable though.
