Amazing job!
Great composition and light. It beautifully praises the model's silhouette making this a wonderful photo!
Really great work!

Its quite fascinating that in art it is sometimes the things we can't see that we find beautiful. This is a very nice silhouette photo. I have one question though, why didn't you include the models head and face? Without the face the figure feels like a thing, something to be ogled and stared at because its the figure of naked woman. With the face it would feel like a person, something much more beautiful than the figure.

guess you're right, when you look at it that way.
on the other hand our intention was to turn the focus on the body, and the body alone. that's why we "cut off" her head...

OFF WITH HER HEAD!!! Well the cool thing about art is that we both have valid points. Yeah to me not having the face to look at makes her feel like a thing for women fairing men, or other women to stare at. Maybe this is just because I'm a strait man, and an American, but I know how this would largely be interpreted by men and to me your piece says "here's some full frontal female nudity, now stare at it longingly like the male chauvinistic pig that you are." Maybe this isn't the case in other parts of the world, but here in the states most guys would view this as a "thing" to stare at. I how ever know that there is a face behind that good looking body and that there is a person there. You'd be surprised how many pigs there are in this country. Its still a very lovely piece, the lighting is very nice, its just that the way you cut it off right at the neck makes the model seem like one of those mannequins you see in a department store, very inhuman. The focus on the body is very nice, Maybe having the face would distract from the body. See, both points are good, there's no wright or wrong answer in art, just everyone's idea of beauty.

you know, i did live in the state for a while and i got quite some friends from and in the us... i know what you're talking about.
in my opinion the human body itself is a work of art – some are surrealistic, abstract, some bombastic, some more like comic art. but still they're pieces of art. and to sit back and look at a piece of art, even sometimes stare at it for a long time, that's ok, 'cause that's what it's intended for, isn't t?
i really appreciate your elaborate comments, you don't get those too often. thank you!

Cool I was wondering if that had any merit to it. I'm glad you get what I'm talking about.
I agree the human body is a work of art, but sometimes living here in America where obesity is a problem, you sometimes see some VERY bad pieces of work! I guess the other part of this is the media. We're constantly bombarded with images of sex here in America. Its always "Stick this half naked girl on the beach and have her eat a cheeseburger so people will buy it," or "show this naked chick as the first thing you see in this show to grab your attention!" It seems like we're subliminally told that a naked woman is just some thing to stare at and drool over and that a naked good looking woman = sex, and here sex = money.
Yeah I know what you mean. I hardly ever get good replies on any of the stuff I do. I get stuff like "hey cool models" or sometimes "WOW" and that's it, nothing to in depth. And you're very welcome.

I worked in the advertising industry for almost fifteen years... i know the mechanisms.
It's exactly the same here, only without the hipocrisy that's so typical for americans. like, you can't say "fuck" in public but guys told me "if you didn't have sex, it was no date."
and, to be honest, i love looking at the female body, especially when it's in good shape. does it make me do things i wouldn't normally do? i don't think so – mostly that is.

Oh okay. The funny thing is most people don't even notice these mechanisms. What ever gets people to buy your crap right?
Yeah I like looking at the female form to. I think that's just programmed or hardwired into our brains, its a primal kind of thing. Its a caveman thing I guess. "Uug pretty girl naked, uug caveman like!!"
HAHA your friend said that? I don't buy that. You can have a date with a woman and not have sex. Sex makes it better, but sometimes it doesn't. I feel the same way I can look at the female form and not be affected by it, I don't loose my mind or anything.

omdot In reply to Plague-Doc-Matteo [2009-10-26 15:13:39 +0000 UTC]
So what it all breaks down to is "hooray for boobies" and "look but don't touch", right?
Just kidding...
It's true, we can't deny our caveman roots. On the other hand, that's what makes people people. Rationality, political correctness and all the like, are inventions of civilization, of cultural and religious backgrounds and ancient historic power games – in fact in some ways the way we behave (or are supposed to behave) today is not really human.
You know what I mean?
Sure, those social rules let us live in a more peaceful society, 'cause they're standard behavior, mostly predictable and thus making us feel "safe" and givong us a certain amount of confidence. Same with things like the Ten Commandments...
Nah, this is getting way too philosophic now.

YES ITS ALL ABOUT THE BOOBIES I'D LUV DEM BOOBIES THEY MAKE THE WHOLE WIDE WORLD BETTER!!!! Boobs are like nature's catnip for men...and lesbian women.
A man's day is always better with boobs.
Yeah I get what you're saying. Here in our modern countries we have a better standard of living because we are civilized. However, I believe that all the war, killing and suffering we inflict on each other is the part of us acting as we should. In the end we're all just monkeys flinging shit at each other, except we do it with bullets bombs. I look at the atrocities of what's going on in Africa, the middle east, and southeast Asia and what those people are doing to each other and think "WOW, that's what we're capable of, and this is what defines us as a race!" Humans have found some kind of peace and zen in violence, bloodshed and war it seams. We try to act civilized as you said, but that's just a mask, deep down we're all sadistic voyeuristic monsters and savages out for sex and blood. HAHAHA Yeah this did get real philosophical didn't it. I personally like philosophy. I don't mind talking about it, if you don't.
I'm enjoying this chat we're having. I've glanced over some of your stuff. Do you do photography as a profession or as a hobby?
I just added you to my deviant watch, so I got my eye on you now. HAHA Joking.

Sorry for the late reply, I got sick and was off for a couple days...
It's all about testosterone, estrogene, money, power – uhm no. In he end it all comes down to sex. Everything.
Dammit.
We're not the slightest bit better than ameobas.
I do photography for a living, although almost everything you see here is stuff I wasn't paid for. I'm trying to get into the people photography market but, well, it ain't easy. Until then I'll have to stick to shampoo bottles, toys and stuff when it comes to making money.
Thanks for the watch!
