Description The final Project-X weapon concept, and my favorite out of the bunch. This rifle definitely packs a punch, firing a 20 gram slug at 1000 m/s.

This is a rail gun?

It's a coilgun. With railguns, the round has to be touching both rails to complete the electric circuit, causing large amounts of electrical arcing that damages the projectile and the rails; this can be powerful enough to vaporize the round before it leaves the rails, turning it into a high-speed, short range blast of plasma. With current tests, the rails need to be replaced after every use, due to arcing and flexing damage caused by the repulsive magnetic fields. These problems should be correctable by advances in material sciences, perhaps nano-engineering.

Coilguns can suspend the projectile in the middle of the coils, and launch it without it ever coming into contact with the barrel. There is no friction, so it is very low-maintenance. While modern coilguns do not have the same power as railguns, the technology should be sufficient for use by infantry of the future.

Really nice design - seems to take a lot of elements from the AK rifles (magazine, release, kind of with the forearm). The Picatinny rail is kind of short, though. Other than that, definitely what I would want waiting for anyone that tries to break into my house!

Like the idea alot, very nice design.

This is must be a fantasy weapon because real life gauss rifles doesn't use gunpowder or casings at all.

This doesn't need casings or gunpower; cobalt is a ferromagnetic metal that is denser and harder than steel, so I thought it would work pretty well for a coilgun slug.

Why is everbody complaining about how it dosent have a sci fi look. In the future they will probably look simple like this!

But I love it! Looks great!!

looks like an AK-47/Galil merge. that's not good for sci-fi, imo

Looks great!
One thing- "Gauss" has to do with an electromagnetic coilgun, so the name is a little weird.
Nice concept tho.

It is an electromagnetic coilgun. Cobalt is the hardest, most dense, and least electrically resistant ferromagnetic element, so it's perfect for this.

Remember we are hundreds of years in the future. These concepts will work but from further on try and make it seem more futuristic.

Looks pretty ok to me, the only problems are (again) a missing safety and maybe tht the sights are to low for comfortable aiming. (Tip: if you still want to have an usable rail for scopes, make the sights foldable)
