And yes, you are so right: Male lions DO hunt on occasion -- A) When they're away from a pride; B) When there is a strict brotherhood between bachelors; and C) A young male/female will often hunt, to satisfy the hunger of an aging lion/lioness; whose teeth and strength have gone.

Actually, male lions DO hunt. It's just a matter of laziness. If they couldn't or didn't hunt, rogue males would never survive as much as they do.
