Description
There's enough angst to go around.I've been meaning to release this AU for a couple months, but I could never figure out how to put it into words. My friend and I were having a sleepover and we were talking about Peepers character arc that the writers had planned for Season 3 and how they wanted Peepers to go to the dark(er) side. Then, we had the idea to make it into an AU where Peepers separated with Lord Hater and became his own villain. It was the perfect excuse to draw Peepers in a really long cape.
This AU takes place somewhere between The New Toy and My Fair Hatey.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So how did this all start? Well, Peepers was always sort of aware that he was mistreated and disrespected to some degree by Lord Hater and he had his own way of dealing with it, but the day when he quit was just the final straw. It was the day that Hater did something so awful that it was enough to push Peepers to his limit. All the times that Lord Hater chased after Wander, drooled over Dominator, and was overall so easily distracted were starting to pile up. They ended up in a viscous argument over who was the real force behind the Hater empire and, of course, Peepers was not hesitant to bring up all of those instances. It was then that Peepers came to the revelation that he wasn’t going to go anywhere if he stuck with a “could’ve-been” for the rest of his life. If he didn’t change something now, he knew he was going to regret it. If Hater didn’t mind taking him for granted, let’s see how he liked it when he’s gone.
Peepers didn’t really have a plan at the time, but he knew he had to get off of the Skullship in order to make any progress. When he did, he became set on a mission to become his own villain and fight for no one but himself. All of his training and hard work was leading up to this moment, he just knew it. He was determined to make his own ship (which was possible, but just very time consuming since it was just one person) and conquer his first planet. There was just one problem….no army....it was just him now. Maybe he didn't think this all the way through; it was going to take a long time to start from the bottom and somehow make it to the top.
Then, fate called.
As Peepers continued his struggle, Dominator just so happened to be passing by and spotted him playing around with pieces of metal. She dropped on by to mercilessly mock him at first, but seeing how he was able to build an advanced weapon with only scrap metal, some tools, and wires...she was impressed. Instead of wanting to destroy him and squish him like a bug, she now wanted to use him. She noticed that Hater isn’t anywhere to be seen, so she just had to ask him what happened. He brushes off the idea of him, claiming that he was better off without Hater slowing him down. Dominator puts the idea in his head that nobody would take him seriously on his own and that he needed somebody bigger than him to help crush his enemies. Dominator proposed that the two of them join forces to be stronger. After some careful consideration, he figured that she made some valid arguments. He used to have Hater as his “brawn,” but look how well that turned out for him. Maybe this was a chance for a fresh new start…
When it came to villainy, Dominator and Peepers both had very different goals. Dominator sought out to destroy while Peepers only wanted to conquer. They made a compromise; Dominator helped Peepers conquer these planets, but if the people end up revolting after being conquered OR they were just bored with the planet, she would destroy them. If it was a challenge, the planet world stay alive, but if they were easy to conquer and were just big pushovers, it would be punishable by death. There were some moments where Peepers had to convince her not to blow up some of his biggest achievements, but overall, this plan worked out well for the both of them.
TL;DR: Peepers was tired of Hater being easily distracted and never being able to focus long enough to be successful. On top of that, Peepers was also tired of feeling unappreciated. He felt that if he stuck with Hater any longer, he wouldn't get anywhere. He leaves Hater and the watchdogs behind to start a new life as his own villain. Dominator stops by to humiliate him, but stops when she realizes that she could really use his brains on her ship. She proposes that they team up to be stronger. Peepers and Dominator learn to meet compromise and they become a successful villain duo.
