What a nice shot. It took me a second to see the title in the image – the plant pods curling together like a hand with five fingers and two thumbs. It’s a neat and creepy take on an autumn photograph.

I see that you’re also interested in getting some critique on your photos. Photos are always a bit tricky to critique because you just get what’s in the frame, but hey.

I think if pressed to suggest some directions to explore, I’d be curious to see what different crops would do to this image. For example, what happens if you center the six main fingers in the shot, instead of offsetting them to the left as you’d done? What if you crop tighter onto the plant pods and cut off the top and right third of the shot? 

Would the picture lose its impact? Maybe.

If you have a photo program that allows it, it might also be interesting to see what happens to this image in grayscale. I suspect you could do some interesting things by taking down the value of the greens and yellows to very dark, and thereby make the lighter pods pop at a higher contrast, creating a very different look than the soft menace you crafted here.

Taking the shot as it is, though, you did a banging solid job, especially at getting the out of focus background at that aperture.
