Character and art are (C)WingedHippocampus please do not trace, recolor, or make bases from this work.I wanted to make a picture for Malthak that was not Sonic the Hedgehog styled. So, here it is. And here's the Sonic one, if you'd like. More than a year old, but hey. I tried to make them at least somewhat similar for comparison.
(Personally I like his super furry Sonstyle legs but they just didn't work in the other style xD)
Now in human flavor!

I'm with ; I love the furry legs on Sonic!Malthak, but I think you made the right call changing them up here. Β It gives the overall design a leaner feel that fits the more humanoid proportions well and makes the character feel more realistic (an odd term to use for a spider-centaur, I grant, but even so x3). Β Like the Harpies pic, you also do a fantastic job of using all your details to really flesh out the design; the particulars of the muscles, for example, or the texturing of his fur (and for that matter the way the patch on his chest runs all the way down to his abdomen and thorax, a great choice that helps unify the spider and human segments of his design), or the way he so gently threads his webs through his slender fingers...it all adds up to a really unique new spin on a classic character of yours, and I love that. <3

I like the furry-legged jumping spider design you used for the Sonic-style-Malthak, but I do think the way you handled them in this drawing is great too, and has the benefit of letting you put some extra red hues in to pull the design together. You did a great job on his legs, particularly all that complex jointing right next to the body. Um. Well, where the spider and human bodies are joined. He's cool, kind of like a spider-centaur.Β
Webbing looks good, too.

Spiders are surprisingly complex. Makes me wish I had a pet tarantula around just so I can use the poor thing as an art reference. x| But it was fun making this!

I don't really know which of the two versions of Malthak do I like more; the humanised (except for the spider half) one or the Sonic-styled one. :I Both of them are just so... amazing~

I saw Malthak in my watch and went "I REMEMBER JU!! Back when you was all fuzzy and coot and stuffs! Where'd your fluffies go???"
And then when I realized I'm talking to a screen and he's not responding, I pay attention to the art and go "OOH this is good!"
I like him interacting with the background. The webbing is a lovely touch. And there's lots of mature detail in this piece the former didn't have. I will admit I do like the original because of those lovely fuzzy legs.
And for the record, I never considered the former overly Sonic-ey!

Even though they aren't as hairy anymore I still love his legs! The detail and structure is beautiful. His fingering of the web is also intriguing. Speaking of the web, the lines and colors are beautiful too!
