I would talk to the elders of your family, or you could try Ancestry.com but I heard that website isn't as accurate as people say it is. My grandpa told me my dad's side of the family has a history of bootlegging, drug manufacuring, whores who worked in brothels, Catholic priests and a strong connection to the Irish Mafia. He told me my mom's side is a strong Norwegian family that lived in America since the 1800's, and that most of them were just simple hard-working farmers, loggers, and eventually mechanics just trying to make an honest living, some of them even fought in the Civil War.

Well after my grandpa died I have no elders anymore, most people in my family are dead anyway so I have a really small one.
