Description Using reference doesn't mean have same as the pic ref, you can always improvisation.

Im not good at making tutor or teach other about how i paint.
Well, i hope you can understand it.. and i hope it work for you guys too.

buat cari cahaya sama bayangan, kita jd tau cahaya sama bayangan dr gambar flat, trus bisa improvisasi sendiri.

levelling the image to bring out the lighting is a fantastic idea this really helps a lots!

Well, the difference between the colored pic and the end result is rather enormous. Would've liked to see a bit more steps and WIP's there, but great job none the less

to be honest it looks better in some of your wips. the finished looks a little over saturated (sorry, just saying).

other than that, yeah, this is good (and actually gives me some ideas for figuring out lighting, for which i am grateful).

I remember reading something similar to this, increasing the levels/contrast helps simplify the tonal values of anything, so you can see what's bright and what's dark easier
