This is a very cool project, and a pretty straightforward tutorial. I definitely think I'm going to try this!

This would be great for light-boxes one buys for copying their sketches onto good paper. Those can be extremely expensive.

Hilariously enough, I got the idea after watching a youtube video on constructing lightboxes for tracing.

Okay, DeviantART is being picky and not letting me edit this, so I'm posting it here:
I've been given the tip that one should use fluorescent instead of incandescent bulbs to avoid heat problems. Good tip. Do that.

Nice! As one who was thinking of building my own lightbox this gives me a start.

Two things I would add:

1. Speaking as Science geek, with this design you should use a fluorescent bulb not an incandescent bulb. (Remember EasyBake ovens? Hint. Hint.) Also, considering this, you might want to include a safety warning about the use of incandescent bulbs in this lightbox design to avoid being sued.

2. Also, the commercial lightboxes use frosted glass to get light over a larger surface. If you use regular transparent glass, then you end up having one "hotspot" and you have to move your artwork around more to get the same lighting effect.
